Bring VIMEO back as a share option!

Vimeo is an industry standard with video. I can't imagine why you'd remove it as a share option with the 2018 "upgrade."

This is a step backwards.

Hi Wayne,
Snagit:Mac has never explicit supported sharing to Vimeo. However, Snagit:Mac does support Apple's NSSharingService and Vimeo is a default sharing service provided by Apple...

But...  you can turn it OFF in system preferences. That is my best guess for what happened.

Go here (see picture below) and make sure Vimeo is still turned ON.

Thanks, Doug. In a chat with a TechSmith associate yesterday, I was told Snagit 2018 no longer had Vimeo support in sharing. They then suggested I post my "suggestion" in this forum. Prior to the 2018 version, I could share/upload to Vimeo without a hitch. My Vimeo extension is still active and works great with other apps.

In Snagit, do you have a video open? We only show the share options for the selected media type. I don't have Vimeo available if I have an image selected, but it's there for videos.

Here's the chat:
Chat started: 2017-11-28 05:08 PM UTC
(05:08:47 PM) WayneStiles: I just upgraded to the 2018 version. I don't see Vimeo as an output option.

(05:09:43 PM) Jimmy B.: Thank you for contacting TechSmith Tech Support. I'm afraid Snagit 2018 does not have a Vimeo output. I will definitely pass your suggestion along. I would also recommend posting your suggestion to our online forum as the proper team does take these suggestions seriously. Go here and click on the ideas tab to post your suggestion: https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/new-community-process-feature-requests
(05:10:17 PM) WayneStiles: It used to have a Vimeo output? Why would you remove it?
(05:11:01 PM) Jimmy B.: I'm not sure what the reasoning behind it to be honest. Only thing I can really recommend to bring it back is to request it in the link sent above
(05:11:23 PM) WayneStiles: Thanks
(05:11:34 PM) Jimmy B.: You're welcome.

(05:11:36 PM) Jimmy B.: Thanks for contacting us and have a great rest of your day

Thanks, I'll let them know that we still have it as an option. I'm a little confused why it's not appearing for you though. What version of macOS and Snagit 2018 are you running?

FWIW: on 10.13 I get vimeo as an option, even when the account is not setup... If I select it - it just prompts me to setup an account.  That's why I suspected Vimeo was turned OFF in System Preferences > Extensions > Share Menu.

@WayneStiles did you verify its turned on?

My Mac is OS 10.13.1 and my Snagit is 2018.0.1 (90411)

I still see Vimeo in the Share dropdown menu, but selecting it does nothing. When I go to Snagit > Prefs > Output, Vimeo is not an option to add back.

Yes, @Doug Troxell, my Vimeo is on.

Do you think you can record a quick video of what's going on?
(You can record Snagit by unchecking "Hide Snagit when capturing" in Snagit's capture preferences)

Thank you, that video helps a lot! I tried this on macOS 10.12 and it all seems to work well, but on 10.13 I got no progress on the upload. It did eventually upload, but it took a while and never showed progress.

I'm fairly certain this is Apple's bug, but one thing you can try is to right click the video in Snagit and "Reveal in Finder". Then right click the video in Finder and share to Vimeo and see if it behaves any differently.

Hi,

We did not remove the vimeo extension, it's one that's provided to all apps by Apple. Make sure that you are signed into your video account in System Preferences under Internet Accounts and that the account is enabled.

I've never used share with SnagIt. I've always save to Hard Drive and inserted the PNG files as needed

You might also let your chat techs know too. Thanks.

Hi,

pjonesCET is correct, we used to use the Vimeo extension provided by macOS, but unfortunately Apple removed that (and a number of other extensions) in macOS Mojave.

If there is enough interest, we can look into writing our own Vimeo plugin, however I would first request that Vimeo add a share extension to their macOS app. That would have the added benefit of being available system-wide instead of just in Snagit.

I'm using the Windows version. I figure if we have a Vimeo extension in Camtasia, there should be one in SnagIt.

I gone to Vimeo website and can find no help or support link  to ask about it. Perhaps someone at techsmith can find proper place at vimeo to ask about  the extension.

My best guess would be either https://vimeo.com/help/contact or leaving a review on their app store page https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vimeo-video-management/id1356686763?mt=12

Here is reply I made SnagIt copy of the letter you should be able read and copy down links.  It was a decision by apple to remove all third party Extension as a security measure according to the letter They say application such as Camtasia and Snagit. Vimeo have has api's that can be integrated in their applications if the Companies are willing put in the effort to do so. So it looks like there are two possibilities  "Slim" and "None" and Slim just left the building.  One workaround is export as MP4 then upload to the vimeo application.

Hope this helpful.

That's a bit disappointing. They didn't mention the sharing extensions that you can ship with your own app, the way Evernote, OneNote and others do it. Perhaps they aren't aware of this?
