One concern on a 7 minute video where the size rendered on MP4 went up a whooping 73% in size!!!
Yes a 88meg mp4 in cam 8 is now a 143meg file in cam 9.
Now if that is a better more functional usable file then GREAT, but now many clients are saying they need many 5 second buffering spots to watch my video.
So is there a benefit to the larger file size??
gonna have to rewatch how reduce this size again.
Ok so far I love the new look!
I have about 10 hours in using Cam 9.

Yes same settings. I'm going to do new video in Cam 8 and then import to Cam 9 and exactly compare the settings
my latest 4 min video from a 4k gopro ended up at (312,609,868 bytes) Holly cow! IM doing something wrong. I start with a 7 minute video 1.7 megs aand trimmed it down to 4 mins. I must use the whole 7 mins size..I think I will have to try export each chunk and import back into a new video with JUST 4 mins of 4k mp4.. maybe I can save such sections to the library .. then export project as a zip then delete the library .. So all then chunks dont fill up my library
Any suggestions here to reduce vidoe size would be a great help
this working space was 1920X 1080 and the rendered size was 852X480, bit rate 128, frame rate 30, key rate 5

Hi Bill!
I am curious, you say " I start with a 7 minute video 1.7 megs aand trimmed it down to 4 mins" I am extremely curious to know if that is a typo or not; a 7 minute, 4k video (even at only a few frames per second), would likely be FAR larger than that. As an example, my iPhone records a 30 FPS 4k video at about 400 MB per minute (meaning a 7-minute video would likely be around 2.5-3GB), could you please clarify what the original 4k video's file size is?
In the Production Wizard if you set the quality to 50% and the the Audio Encoding to 96kbps, how does the size compare (those settings are closer to Camtasia Studio 8's production settings, minus the 4k resolution).

if possible, could you try a test?
first, I don't know anything about 4K gopro; I believe that is a very large dimension clip? but your example contains a lot of motion of color video capture; that will yield very large files after production
FYI, I do panorama scan projects using 1920x1080 editing dimensions against a single JPG panorama, I use use a single animation to scan across the entire panorama; these projects produce HUGE MP4 files [1GB+] even though they are only 30 seconds long; the slower the pan [longer in time] the greater the file size
if you've cut the original clip down to 4 minutes from 7 during editing, when you produce, you are not including [using] the original 7 minutes in the produced video
so, for the test, after editing down to 4 minutes, custom produce to MP4 w/controller, 30 FPS, set quality to 70%, H264 at high; keyframes at 1 second; audio? if so, set audio to 256kbs
set produce dimensions at 1920x1080
what size is the produced MP4?

I too have experience Camtasia 9 output to an mp4 = Camtasia 8 Size x 2.5
See the results here http://screencast.com/t/plNsgqjItz
And the interesting thing is that the .trec file was created by Camtasia 9 and then I used it also in Cam 8 to output the smaller file.
Is there any way to get this output size = Camtasia 8?

This thread seems to be several months old, but I just got Ver. 9 and am having similar problems. I have an ongoing project recording the entire highschool math curriculum. I fit each course onto an 8 GB thumb drive. I have been reworking my Algebra 2 curriculum with Version 9 and noticed that if I continue, it will overflow the thumb drive. I tried to get all the settings the same, but on average the mp4 files are 50% larger than before. Is there an inherent increase in file size for some reason, or am I missing a setting that is making it a memory hog?

Hi David;
Camtasia 9 production options are of a higher quality than previous versions. For one the bitrates are often higher and the audio is encoded higher. In the Local File production option reduce the quality slider/percentage to between 40 and 50 percent, and set the audio to encode to 64 kbps rather than what it's currently set at. This should get you similar sizes (assuming you're recording at the same framerate, length, and resolution).
