I tried this hotfix and it did not resolve the issue for me. Tried this program on two different computers and both have the same problem. Hope TechSmith figures it out quick.

I'm having crashes left and right on imported projects from 7. Cursor effects, selecting a video clip, adjusting audio. It's very, very frustrating. Not that posting such a comment on the forum helps but I'm in the middle of updating 24 programs and I'm not getting past program 3. I'm feeling long days and nights ahead when I thought this would be a seamless job. Yes, I've escalated to tech support but I wanted the 'data point' on the forum. I don't want to go looking for a new tool as I've relied upon Camtasia in the past and know that it has great potential.

I have been using Camtasia 8 since the first day - and it never crashes on either my work computer or my home computer.

I rarely have problems when I author a program in version 8. The problem is almost always associated with a project that started in 7 and is imported.

Hi Everyone,

Camtasia Studio 8.0.3 released today! It includes many bug fixes, including addressing crashes, and productivity enhancements. We hope it addresses the issues raised in this thread. Here is a list of what's new:

- Made lower volume levels more distinguishable on the timeline audio waveform
- Arrow keys now scroll the playhead instead of the timeline
- Tooltips now show for locked media
- Improved ability to scroll the timeline while playing
- Added ability to specify duration when extending a frame
- Adding ripple moving and trimming of media on the timeline
- Inserting space on the timeline by holding shift and dragging the playhead
- Added option to include under video captions in a variety of outputs
- Improved audio editing for timeline selections
- Keyframes now automatically fit in available space when added to media
- Improved messaging when uploading media to private or password protected folder on Screencast.com
- Fixed an issue that caused extended frames to show incorrect cursor effects
- Added ability to set the default animation duration to instant
- Fixed an issue causing table of contents to not be initially visible
- Improved memory usage and performance on the timeline
- Fixed issues causing CS7 project upgrades to fail
- Additional bug fixing

Here is a video to explore what's new in 8.0.3: http://www.screencast.com/t/QsrLLpZRIk9

Thanks,
Shane Lovellette

I had no issue with version 8.0.2 but since the release of 8.0.3 I have had persistent app crash errors on Project Load.

Running windows update now for additional & recommended updates.

I have a fairly beefy machine. Top end ASUS i7 desktop, 16 GB RAM, 2 TB drive space.

I've noticed on large projects (90-120 minutes) Camtasia 8.0.2 was starting to get sluggish if left open for a long time (read 12-16 hours)... software restart often resovled the issues.

I'll keep trouble shooting, but would appreciate any help the community can offer.

Thanks

Here is the app crash message I receive.

an additional note to my post above:

After installing version 8.0.3 I was successfull in loading, editing, saving one large project before crash issues started.

Recording functions, smaller projects etc all seem to function correctly... only opening an existing project causes the issue.

All my projects having issues were created with 8.0.2

I am wondering if there is a corruption in the project file. I which I knew what to look for in the XML.

FYI - Installing Windows updates and repairing the Camtasia install have had no effect. I am now rolling back to 8.0.2 to see if the project will load.

A final note from me... it is possible this may help others in the community.

I've been researching the function of the KERNELBASE.DLL and found that it is specific to WINDOWS 7

######
"Kernalbase.dll is used for compatability purpose for older programs in windows 7 ... prior to Win 7 all call to ntdll.dll was done by Kernal32.dll. Kernelbase.dll was added to make calls to directly to ntdll.dll"
######

Logically, the only way to "bi-pass the DLL" is to run the Camtasia program in compatability mode for an older Windows OS version.

I have set Compatability to Vista SP2 and set to RUN AS ADMIN (just in case)....

Now my project loads every time without issue.

This is not a longterm solution, but it may help users get functionality back quickly and help the developers locate the cause for a fix to be created.

Leave a comment if this helps you... lets get the developers to look at it more closely :-)

Note: This works with version 8.0.3 (have not tested 8.0.2 but would expect similar result)

Perhaps I spoke too soon. The Project now loads everytime, however I now have the APPCRASH / KERNALBASE.DLL randomly occuring during playback or editing... hmm

I have run a SFC /SCANNOW to detect and/or repair any windows file errors, hopwever the DLL in question was given the "all clear".... so... more research it would seem.

After hours of frustration, went to the Camtasia Properties and changed it to run in XP Compatibility mode.

Works great now.

Hope this helps.

I am working on a 2 min 30 sec video. It has a lot of Audio and Video clips. I'm about 80% done (it has taken several days). Now the program crashes every few minutes.

I'm running the latest version. And my hardware is an Alienware that is a few months old.

I'm using about 26 video clips, 3 audio files and 7 photos.

Should I give up and buy another software program? Or do you think this software is up to the task?

I actually have the 8.0.4 update installed. Everything was working fine today, but then it crashed. And now it crashes immediately when I start it. Tried rebooting the PC. Tried repairing the install. No luck. Any ideas?

Jason and Sahil, I'm sorry for the trouble. If you've contacted our TechSupport staff, we will do everything we can to get you back on track. This is the best way for us to help you.

We did have one user who recently solved a startup crash by updating to .NET 4.5 (available through Windows Update on Windows 7 and 8 only, I think). I can't promise this will solve your issue, but it may be worth a try.

I too installed .Net 4.5 which temporarily fixed it, but the problem recurred. I've been working with tech support. After sending a crash dump file, he suggested I update my sound card driver. This also temporarily fixed it.

But I think I've found the cause in my case, if not a solution - it crashes when I have my usb headset connected and works when it isn't. I use a Logitech Clearchat (H390) headset. Tech support agent said he has had two other cases with users using that exact model.

I had to get a project done, so I've been using Adobe Captivate 6 instead. I have to say it is pretty powerful - and most importantly it doesn't crash.

Mine is crashing instantly too. Looks like it's been a year and this isn't resolved. I tried installing 8.03 and not it just does a fatal crash during install. Looks like I'll have to find another screen capture program.

It crashes by me too. I just uploaded version 8.1 for evaluation (that's the one on the site) and it keeps crashing. Something to do with compatibility with WinXP SP2 even when I run Win 7...
