I went to install CAM 8 for the 30 day trial, but it wont open. I double-click it on the desktop and it loads a bit then nothing, it wont open at all. I haven't found anyone with this problem and I've been looking for hours for a solution but so far I haven't found one.

open Task Manage; on Processes tab, look for CamtasiaStudio.exe *32

if you see it, select it, delete with delete key

try to launch software again

Hi users,

Sorry to hear about this problem! One quick check: can you try opening Windows Explorer, navigating to your Camtasia Studio installation folder, and launching CamtasiaStudio.exe from in there?

Regards,

Aaron

Hi,
Rather than spinning your wheels here, I think you should go directly over to our Technical Support site and open a ticket. We don't have the tools in this forum to assess your PC system to see what might be causing this issue.

It could be antivirus software running in the background, or a bad installation, etc. and technical support is equipped to help you sort that out.

This is a free service and you can submit a ticket here:

Kayakman I am not sure if that will fix the problem he is having as far as I know all the new update did was add the ability to upload your videos directly to Vimeo. I could be wrong though. It would not be the first time in life as I am not perfect and never expect to be.

Update Correction: Straight from their version update page. Here is what was fixed in the latest upgrade of Camtasia Studio 8:

Version 8
25 August, 2015: Camtasia Studio 8.6.0
  • Added Vimeo production preset
  • Added support for 24-bit and 32-bit audio decoding
  • Fixed issue related to AVCHD
  • Added capability to extract media streams from TREC recordings
  • Improvements and bug fixes for the TechSmith Smart Player
  • Fixed some scenarios that resulted in a crash on start-up
  • Bug fixes for YouTube and Google Drive outputs
  • Other minor bugs fixes

But just in case the latest version does not fix the porblem for you Minecrafty then here is the support information below and you may want to contact them as it is hard to say if you are not getting any error message and we cannot see what is happening.

Let us know what you find out and thanks for posting and have a great day/night.

Post back if the update fixed your problem and if not and you contact the support department post back what you found out and how it was fixed please for others to see. Thank you again. Sorry for the problem you are having.

I'm running Camtasia 8.6.0 and I also have the difficulty of opening the studio software sometimes.
There are various things I can do to eventually get the software to open but it's a frustrating process and I feel helpless to control it.

Here's the strategy list that sometimes works for me:
- Close down any instances of Camtasia Studio running in the task manager
- Close down any instances of the Camtasia recorder
- Close down Chrome windows and it's toolbar application
- Open Camtasia Studio 8 using "Run as Administrator" (this solution would be fine except I can't access network drives)
- Properly exit Camtasia Studio 8 from the file menu
- Wait 10 seconds
- Open Camtasia Studio normally
- Cross fingers...

Eventually this seems to work for me.  It seems to have started once I upgraded to Windows 10 although that was about the same time I upgraded to the latest version of Camtasia as well...

EDIT:  Thankfully this problem has now gone away on it's own! (2015-12-08)  I didn't update Camtasia or do anything else consciously to fix it.  I'm assuming it was something external that was interfering with it being able to open that got automatically updated.

I've been working with Techsmith now on this for over a week and still no good work around for this. Pretty sad to have software that doesn't open.  By the way, I'm an educator and have now verified this issue on two different computers.

If I open it it wont open because it tells me that I cant run it on 64 bit. Where can I download 64 bit Camtasia Studio 8?

You will have to download the 32 bit version. It asks you in the installation

Hey I had the same issue (When I open Camtasia it says it stopped working) and I came across a solution that I hope it will work, Download the file D3DCompiler_47.dll from internet then inject it into the Camtasia files. Hope it helped!

My version of Camtasia (8.6) has stopped running.  I start the program, the splash screen pops up, then it says "Camtasia has stopped working..." and closes.

I noticed this right after Microsoft .NET framework 4.7 was installed.  I am going to try uninstalling that, to see if it helps.

"An unhandled Microsoft .NET Framework exception occurred in CamtasiaStudio.exe [2884]." <-- this is the message if I choose to "Debug."
