Camtasia 2018 Crashes When I Click on WAV in Media Bin

I've got a 1080 video file with audio at 48kHZ.  I can add a WAV file to the media bin, however when I click on the WAV in Media bin to drag it to the timeline, Camtasia crashes (disappears & Mac crash report appears).  I tried changing the WAV file to match the session at 48k (so I wasn't mixing sample rates) & even tried dropping the bit depth to 16, & still the same thing.

I'm using Camtasia 2018.0.8 on MBP 2018, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i9, 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4, with an AMD Radeon RX570 via Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Puck.

Here are a couple of thing to try. Instead of dragging the WAV file to the timeline, can you right-click on the WAV file in the asset bin and choose the "Add to timeline at playhead" option.  This bypasses all of the relatively complex drag and drop code.  If it still crashes when doing this, will you try turning off waveform drawing (under View->Display->Waveforms).  Then try adding the WAV file to the timeline (either by dragging or with the menu option).  If it still crashes, then there may be something about that WAV file that is causing Camtasia grief.

I don't know that we have ever used an external GPU with Camtasia as you mention. It should be transparent to Camtasia whether the GPU is external or not, but perhaps there is something not behaving properly in that case.  I doubt it has anything to do with that since the file that has issues is audio and the GPU isn't involved in rendering audio.

Finally, you can contact Techsmith tech support and see if there is something we can do to help you out.  At minimum, it would be nice to get the WAV file that you have and see if we can duplicate your crash in which case we should be able to make Camtasia handle the issue better (eg. don't crash and let you know that we can't render your file for some reason).

I tried doing the right-click instead of dragging & that worked!  Thank you Leif.  There must be something with the drag & drop code that the latest OSX doesn't like.

Thanks for letting us know.  We'll get that fixed.
