Camtasia 2018 losing "recent projects" list. happened twice in a month

When opening Camtasia 2018, the recent project list would show recent items.  The first time installed it showed all the Camtasia 9 projects that were recent.  Then within a week it showed nothing.  Starting over it was up to 4 projects and then today opening it, NONE showed up again!   This is bad.

based on my use of CS 2018, I believe the behavior of the recent projects list has been deliberately changed; if the referenced tscproj file is gone, then the item is removed from the list; the list also seems to [usually] recycle on a daily and/or new CS instance basis

I agree, that has been my experience.

So if the file is gone, I can't really select the project anymore but clearly they are not (and the behavior of losing potentially dozens of those files would be considered more than a bug) ... as for recycling, If it were consistent as in "daily" or "weekly" that would not be good but at least something to expect and this has been ok for days and even nearly a month since the "first time" it did it so the recycle piece seems to also be "buggy" at best and "poor User Experience Design" at most.  I have not seen an update that I am aware of, either so as to a "fresh CS instance" which could only happen in that case short of me purposely uninstalling a system which I have not, the issue of another instance is not the case here.  But if others are experiencing this, then someone in their QA will need to review the user story/requirements again and hold someone accountable.

fresh CS instance means an exit [close] of CS, the a re-launch

I'm seeing fairly consistent behavior

maybe try a test ...

launch CS; save the empty project with a useful name; exit CS

relaunch CS, and the newly named project should be in recent projects list [i.e., the file menu list]

exit CS again; navigate to and delete the saved named tscproj file; laubch CS again; the project should be gone from the list

is this what you experience?

In the first place, I never delete a project but I have most recently opened "current projects" located in the Camtasia Studio folder which was the name defaulted by the last version.  That said, new project appear to be created in the "old" directory and on the current time the last edited file I did is showing up in the list and the test creation of a new blank project saved also shows up in the list.  Opening up one of the originals also puts it on the list but that is what happened before when it decided to blank out.

This might be a good item for us to put a support ticket into TechSmith for.  Note, I say "us" as it seems we have all experienced this issue. It might be a bug that TechSmith needs to work on, is already working on, or may have a solution that we are not aware of.

Projects that no longer exist shouldn't appear in the recent files list. “In my opinion"

Adobe’s Premier Pro removes nonexistent projects from the list automatically. If the project doesn’t exist, it’s pointless to have it listed if it cannot be opened. It won't be removed from the list until after you restart PP.

Adobe’s Photoshop on the other hand. Still lists deleted files under the “Open Recent” tab. If you try to open one of those, you get the pop up

Forcing you to click again.

When I delete a project in Camtasia 2018, the project still appears in the recent files list. Just like Photoshop. So I have a pop up to contend with.

Then, as I was playing around with it this morning. I deleted a new project as a test. One that was a throwaway project.Updated from Camtasia 9 and deleted. Now my recent projects list is Blank.
I restarted Camtasia  5 times, the situation  didn't correct itself. The recent project screen is still blank. So there's an issue.

Regards,Joe

with CS 2018 closed, if I delete a CS project that was showing in the recent projects list, open CS, and the item is still in the list, clicking to open brings up a "no longer there" dialog, and the item is immediately removed from the list

and, as previously mentioned, if a gone project is listed, then CS is closed over night, the next day it will no longer be listed

what would help here is a full description from TechSmith of exactly what is the expected behavior

I like the list being cleared out; my preference would have been for a "flush" function that cleared it on command; but current behavior is much better than the old way

I don't know if the bipolar behavior of the Recent Projects dialog is intentional or not.

I do know it needs to be fixed.

Okay, I'm able to reproduce this bug on my end. Once the project file history gets up to five projects, it is clearing out the history rather than keeping the five most recent. I've opened a bug to get it fixed in a maintenance release. Sorry for the trouble!

Glad you tested this. I got busy and forgot to put in a support ticket. Thanks for being on top of it and putting in the bug fix request.

Very good. I've seen it but hadn't picked up on the pattern of it in part because I'm still working about 50% in C9 and 50% in C2018. Since I wasn't sure how to reproduce it I hadn't raised a ticket.

This is an annoying problem and frankly, even when it is working my recent projects list only shows THREE recent projects.  But frequently, it is just blank.  I hope that ticket that Kevin Mojek put in is being worked on.  Thank you.

thanks for this HEADS UP, Kevin

could you describe what the expected behavior now is?

The project file history should be retained and not cleared out unexpectedly.

I thought in the beta or early 2018 that the recent projects list was reworked so that old files were automatically deleted on some time period basis?  the problem with the old behavior was that, because the user could not clean it out, it often showed long deleted projects

I note that if a tscproj is deleted from the file system, and it is listed in the recent list, trying to launch that file will bring up a "not there" warning, and then that listing is deleted

personally, I would prefer a way to wack listings I know I don't need anymore
