Camtasia 2018 maintenance option: What is a major upgrade in this context?

With the Camtasia 2018 upgrade I can also purchase a one-year maintenance option. One of the benefits is described as

"Free Upgrades - All majors and updates"

Did Techsmith change their update policy to the disadvantage of their customers? Will I have to pay for in-release updates and bug fixes in the future (unless purchasing the maintenance option)?

I use Camtasia Mac since October 2016 and cannot remember having ever seen a billable major or minor update between releases.

Hi Christoph and thanks for bringing this odd wording to my attention, I'll be sure to pass along your feedback.

The policy has not changed; major versions, i.e. moving from Camtasia 9 to Camtasia 2018, are paid upgrades, which has been the norm for quite some time. Minor update (Camtasia 9.0 to Camtasia 9.1) and maintenance/service updates (Camtasia 9.0.0 to Camtasia 9.0.1) are both free to licensed users. This means that you do not need to pay for in-version updates (such as fixes) regardless of having a maintenance agreement, however if a new major version (i.e. Camtasia 9 to Camtasia 2018), you would need to pay if you wanted to upgrade to the new version without an active maintenance agreement.
