Camtasia 2018 - screen recording save to project folder

Hi All

I want Camtasia 2018 to automatically save screen recording to the project folder. How can I set it up? I mean I know how to do it manually after every recording, but I want automatically..
Currently all recording are saved always to the same folder that is specified in settings, but I need them to be saved in project folder.

Idea is to share materials with teammates so they can open my project with no problems. I can save it to onedrive, it works, but still need to solve problem with recordings... (export project as zip does not meet my needs)

Hi, Naomi!

thank you for reply!
I've seen this video, it is not what I am looking for... in this case I still need to manually save the recording every time to the folder I need. But I want Camtasia to save it automaticaly to my project folder

Sergey, in the recorder, Tools, Options, under General tab
Click on Fixed File Name or Automatic File Name
You will then be able to choose the Output folder location you would like to automatically save to, which sounds like you have one project folder.

The downside to this is you lose the ability to choose the file name; however, that sounds like that would not be a problem in your case.

Hi, you can change the Camtasia Recorder settings to 'Ask for a File name' which I think may be what you're looking for. I made a gif to show how: https://twitter.com/Jaynedavids/status/1080850560390189056
Hope this helps,
Jayne

Hi, Jayne!

thank you for reply!
Unfortunately I knew about this way.... in this case I will need to specify folder for recording every time manually... I dream that Camtasia can save recording to project folder automatically

perhaps you might provide some further clarification that would help?

when working on a new project, do you start by creating a new project file [tscproj] that is saved in a targeted "project folder"; then you make your captures, wanting them all to go into the same folder?

or

do you make 1st new capture, with Camtasia Recorder set to the "auto" post-capture behavior; and then you want all subsequent captures to go into that same folder?

perhaps we mighty be able to offer better suggestions

Hi, Kayakman!

Typically it is just as you described first:
1. Create new project, Save it to project folder
2. Make capture
3. Manually save capture to project folder
4. Some more captures... and save them again to project folder

I want to exclude this step with manual saving to project folder. I know that Camtasia can automatically save captures to specefied folder, but I need to save them to project folder and I do not worry about naming in this case

So sergey.panfilov

Here is how to do what I think you are asking for.

First some things to mention.

1. This is assuming you want to save recordings to one folder of your choosing during a session.
Camtasia (no program) can make a decision on it's own what folder something should go in.

2. This is assuming you are saving .trec recording files to the folder.

3. Specific naming of each recording is not a requirement.

With the recorder open go to Tools >> Options

Under the "General" tab click the File Options button

1. In the next window select "Automatic file name"
Type in a Prefix (name) that you want.

2. Click the output folder icon and choose your project folder.

Click OK

Next under the "Program" tab under Workflow check the box to hide the preview and
set "Do this with my recording:   to Save.

Click OK

Now do your recording.

When you stop the recording it will be saved in the folder you set with the prefix you typed.

Do your next recording. when you stop recording, it will be saved to the same folder again with the same prefix but also a sequence number added ie: 001, 002, 003, etc.

If you want to work on a different project you will need to go into the recorder options again and change the "File Options" to that projects name (prefix) and and it's folder.

If you have already saved to a folder it should be in the drop down so you don't have to look for it again.

The Prefix you will have to type in again for that project :(

to add to what Dubie has stated ...

when in Recorder, setting up the file options, as a last step, I next select "ask for file name"

by doing this, when you finish a capture, the file picker will open, pointed at your chosen folder, and the auto name will be highlighted, giving you a chance to modify/change the auto name, if you want; you can also navigate to a different folder, if you want

another tip ...

the format for auto name can be changed if you desire

I change the Rec {DD}-{MM}-{YY} default to MyProjectName-20{YY}-{MM}-{DD}

this gives me a capture named like "BigTestProject-2019-03-31"

Hi, Dubie

Thank you for such detailed reply!
Unfortunately it does not solve my problem - I still need to click my mouse too much to save the recording :) but as I see there is no other way
