Camtasia 2019-Extend frame feature.

Hi, I am using Camtasia 2019. I find this Extend Frame feature quite tricky to use. Sometimes, it works and sometimes it doesn't. Although there is room to extend the frame. I even try putting the playhead towards the end-even then Extend Frame is greyed out. Can you help me with this?

I find using extend frame tricky. Thank you Techsmith for fixing the double-cursor problem! At least that works as expected now.

I can usually get extend frame to work by backing off from the end by one frame. My theory is the feature requires the playhead to be positioned between two frames, but I know of no documentation about that. I do know that in preview, the playhead shows the trailing frame. In your screenshot, that would be blank, therefore extending the frame would not work. Hence, you could try using the keyboard back key "<" once to reverse the playhead one frame, to an active one.

I've also forgotten I previously applied extend frame on a clip and using the keyboard Shift-E shortcut does nothing. Right-clicking the clip shows me it's been extended and can be adjusted using the "Duration" selection.

IDEA: It would be nice to have extended sections be a different shade or color to speed up editing workflow.

you cannot extend frame on images, or on groups

like David stated, once extend frame is applied, the extend function, per SE, no longer works there; but the extension acts like an image, and can be grabbed/dragged out/in with the mouse

perhaps some of these tutorials might be helpful ...

The tutorials aren't helpful since my Camtasia interface is not behaving like the videos show, I cannot replicate any of it. Not new t Camtasia I have been using TechSmith product for 12+ years (except on my Win10 machine where Snag It is a complete fail in editor)  I am recording in Snag It with Output set to *Camtasia* so I should have the world of options available, and yet no joy. Computer seriously exceeds requirements. I cannot even get Extend Frame to light up as a selectable option. It has been messing with FPS, clip speed, and duration but noting and I mean NOTHING will allow to Freeze frame. Not from the Playhead, not by splitting the tracks, not with a right click on the track. When I drag with Ctrl, Alt or WinKey (since TS is not specific about the PC "function key" this is the 3rd Community article I am on for this subject)  I am just moving the clip or messing with the settings just listed.

I expect better from TechSmith. This appears to have been a bug that's been around since the *2018 release*, and aught to be long resolved by now. This is a simple function and  as IDs we do not have the luxury of time to convert thru multiple other programs to apply a simple freeze frame. I very disappointed this is not fixed, and it is a HUGE issue in a list of 75 videos I have to record - Way to go Camtasia for making us work harder and not smarter. FIX THE DANG BUG.

SnagIt records to mp4 only.

You should be using the the Camtasia recorder if you want to edit a screen recording in Camtasia .
The Camtasia recorder uses .trec. Which captures cursor movements and allows for editing the cursor and adding effects to it.

Try it, see if most of your troubles go away.

I can't tell  you why this is happening to you?
However, until you get this resolved. You could place the timeline indicator where you want to extend the frame.
Then export that frame as a png. Split the media as desired and insert the still frame.
