Just my $0.02
When I have my Nvidia graphics card enabled.
Below is a screen shot of my media bin and Task Manager. The card is enabled in preferences. I have 20 items in the media bin.
18 .trec recordings and 2 audio files. I also ran tests using just Audio files. And tests with just .trec recordings.
CPU usage varies between 7% and 10%.
GPU usages varies between 25% and 60%.
So up to 10% of the CPU resources are wasted on the media bin alone. There is no media on the Timeline whatsoever.
The GPU aids in timeline playback in all versions of Camtasia. Up to 60% of its resources are accounted for/wasting away.
That's a lot of improperly allocated processing power.
I run a strong computer.
4th Generation Intel Core i7-4770 processor 3.40 GHz (8M Cache, up to 3.9 GHz)
16GB RAM Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz - 4 DIMMs EA - -
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 1.5GB GDDR5 EA - - Supporting 4 Displays
EVO V-NAND 1TB SSD SATA 6Gb/s 3
If you have an even lowered powered computer, the hit your resources take may be worse?
I saved the non-project and switched to "Software Only" mode.
Restarted Camtasia and opened the project.
Now the system resources are all down to "ZERO" where they should be.
I was running some audio file "only" tests when I discovered this the other day. I reported it to tech support as such. Not thinking to see if the same thing happens with other media.
I didn't load any still images in today's tests.
Less than 10 media items can trigger the results I posted. The impact is a bit lower with fewer items.
I'll be adding today's findings to my support ticket.
i9 Extreme 16 core 64GB DDR4 4200 and 2X Nvidia RTX 2080ti and a TB m.2 Pro SSD on Raid also everything on Water.
So resource hogging is not the biggest problem. As I compared to the last windows version of Quicken LOL. I think they Interchange coders.
I am at work right now, but I post the detail of the configuration file when I get home later today.
And by the way, the performance issue has nothing to do with the GPU you choose (although it does matter a bit if you are using a low performance PC).
My computer is PINNED at 99% and the rendering time is SLOW if not the same as the previous version I just replaced less than an hour ago:
What exactly is going on here?
BTW...I've read the previous postings. I'm disappointed that you have to toggle system parameters in order to accommodate this latest version of Camtasia. I've never had to do this to optimize performance.
What exactly did you guys at Techsmith do to this thing that makes it lag like this?
Hope this helps!
@ The topic starter. how did it end up for you?
Also, I find I have to reboot my Mac and/or restart Camtasia several times during the day.
Also, new with Camtasia 2019, the custom animations simply don't work about 10% of the time and the only way to fix this is to restart Camtasia and try again.
I bought the maintenance package but the customer service agents don't seem to understand the issues.
I upgraded the memory on my Mac but it has made no difference.
