I just upgraded Camtasia 8 to 2019 and now it records a loud buzzing background noise that it didn't before. I'm in a quiet room with almost no ambient noise. This wasn't an issue before the upgrade. All of my equipment, headset, etc. remains the same as before the upgrade. What can I do to address the problem, please?

Hi Grace,

I encountered a similar problem when importing voice-over recordings that I produced with Audacity, as my attempts with Camtasia weren't satisfying. My exported WAV files had hardly any background noise when played in Audacity or the VLC media player but as soon as I imported them into Camtasia 2019 the background noise was absolutely painful and forced me to fiddle with gain and track volume a lot.

At some point I read on this forum that Camtasia 2019 comes with an "auto-normalize" feature which is activated by default. I deactivated  this feature in my Camtasia Preferences, but the background noise was still there.

Anyway, in yesterday's "Diving Deeper into Camtasia" Webinar, the presenter adjusted the project settings of his demo project (accessible via the drop-down menu above the canvas) and there it was again, an "Auto-normalize loudness" checkbox. So I deactivated it today in one of my existing projects and "hurray" - problem solved :-)

Obviously, adjusting the preferences setting didn't affect existing projects, which still had auto-normalize activated.

Maybe this can help you with your problem as well.
