Camtasia 2020 (Mac) crashing frequently when using CMD+X to cut content from timeline

When using Camtasia 2020.0.2 (111689) for Mac my workflow is:

  • Record (powerpoint screencast)
  • Split audio and video into separate tracks
  • Turn on track magnets
  • Edit with this flow
  •      - Watch until I find a section to edit
  •      - Select the section to remove on the timeline
  •      - Hit CMD+X to remove
95% of the time this works fine.

5% of the time Camtasia crashes as soon as I hit CMD+X.  The crash brings up the crash report window which I submit about 25% of the time.

Given my editing speed this means I'm crashing out of the app about every half hour.

My "s" key is getting worn out from saving every time I do anything.

Camtasia also locks up sometimes when I move the playhead around and hit "space" to start playing.  Probably 10% of the time but it always recovers within 5-10 seconds.  So this is only a little annoying rather than absolutely frustrating.

But other than crashing all the time and locking up randomly, the 2020 release has been great.

Anyone else having this problem?

Yes.  I have had the Command+X crash once in a while.
However, we will probably ask our team to revert to Camtasia 2019 Mac on Friday.   The Export captions to SRT simply doesn't work and the Text Edit cursor is invisible on a white background.
Our business relies on importing SRT foreign language captions and we have spent 2 days literally copying and pasting in captions.
2020 has some cool features but we will probably have to abandon it. :(

We can't currently reproduce it ourselves, but we've managed to find a crash report for this and are investigating. Thanks!

Similar issue happens with my setup, also 2020.0.2 and I have issues manipulating timeline. Created a ticket in support and submitted crash reports to Apple, as the whole MacOS rebooted.

Ended up having to move to Premiere for all editing. It was simply too frustrating to deal with.
