Camtasia 3 mac - export resolution is very poor, I chose 100% scale and fit to visible with no luck

I can't get a good quality video to export in any format using Camtasia 3 for mac. I chose 100% scale and fit to visible before exporting. Camtasia makes fit to visible a custom size - you can see this in this 20 sec video clip of me trying to do this http://www.screencast.com/t/by16TbqcJY8y

The recording was a full-screen recording of my desktop.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I've been trying to solve this off and on over the last week.

Thanks,
Andy

What is the resolution of the monitor you captured?

That's the dimensions you should be editing and producing your video with.

I thought I might have luck with your comment. My screen is 2880 x 1800. But I got the same poor results. I'm sure it's a setting or my resizing of something I should not have, but I don't know what to look at or how to figure out it.

I may try a sample in Camtasia 2 to see if I have luck there. Version 2 seemed to work for me in the past. I just don't want to have to recapture and edit for another 6 hours to make this work.

I understand that for sure, by all right if you set the project settings to 2880 x 1800 manually and render it you should get a good clean render. I don't know the procedure with the MAC version but you should be able to double click and type those values into project settings.

If not, try support.I've found phone support to be quick. Now that chat is available, if your outside of the USA & Canada that's probably fast as well. I've never tried it.
I would like to here back if you resolve it.

Anyway, bad quality with all export formats. Did you noticed Camtesia 3 can Import with alpha Channel but cannot Export with Apha Channel ? I hope it's not a kind of... “Camtesia's 3 Philosophy“ :(

I was so desapointed about Cam3 (bad quality, many bugs, no firewire/thunderbolt compatibilty...) I tried to step back to version 2... no way !

I would prefer to do eveything with Cam3... but my camera is 10 000 $ Sony firewire Pro and Cam3 has no Mac's Thunderbold compatiblity !
So I start to record with ScreenFlow. Then later on, I Edit with ScreenFlowl... and now I use Cam3 only to animate.

With all those tests... I discovered the very particular Camtesia “Philosophy“ :
- No Share (no export alpha channel)
- No full Mac compatibility (no Thunderbold's device accepted)
- A lot of bugs that makes you doubt
- And no way to step back to Camtesia 2

:(

That's pretty crazy what you're getting. The steps you followed seem right, generally, as far as making sure to get your video to 100% size and size the canvas around that.

I'm going to take a couple stabs at what might be going on...

First, you actually have everything selected; videos, audio, some text callouts. The scale property is probably reflecting it all together instead of just the video. If you select just one video clip on the timeline, what do you see for scale?

Next, in share->local file dialog, what does the "options" screen look like? Perhaps you have overriden the dimensions setting there?

Paul, the dimensions on the local file dialog were set to 800x600. I didn't realize there was another place to set these. I figured I was doing something wrong.

In any case, thank you. This worked. The video is about 95% the quality I hoped for. But now I know of more settings to use. I'll play with this and see what I can do with it.

Thanks for the suggestion!
