Camtasia 8.6 extends the audio

When I put in a song in Camtasia 8.6 it extends it. For example,  I upload and put on the timeline a 3:15 minute long song in the audio is made 8:40 minutes instead. Why is this?

what file type are you putting in Camtasia [MP3 ?]

there may be a compatibility issue [audio bit rate?]

try converting the file into a WAV at 44,100 16 bit

does that help

I'm not an audio expert; maybe others that are more versed in audio can offer suggestions?

The file type is MP3 and this never happened before and I have checked just now that only some of the files do this.

sounds like an incompatibility thing

try converting to WAV per above; maybe use free Audacity ...

Hello,

So far it is unclear what the results are:

1) Does the MP3 play at a different speed or pitch?

2) Does the song repeat?

3) Is the song blank (silent) from 3:15 - 8:40?

Right click on the MP3 file and check properties to see if it is VBR (variable bit rate) as these are problematic. CBR constant bit audio files work fine.

Also...what was the original source of the audio?  Is it something you produced in a DAW?  Most DAW's us much higher bitrate and sample rates for projects.  Sometimes (and I emphasis sometimes) the final production file is a hi res wav file that some mp3 converters have a hard time making a true mp3 / 16bit / 44.1 (or 48 if you think it makes a difference) stereo file.  That said, I think you'll find Timbre4's info will get you the answer.
