As I can see in the Camtasia 9, you just have to edit your text directly in your object(box, circle) from your canevas.
Hope this help !

Double Click inside the text window on the Canvas. That's will highlight the text and give you a text cursor to work with.See Image Below, Click to Enlarge

If you start typing the "ABC" letters will disappear and be replaced by what you are typing. If you move the cursor over existing text and left click, a blinking cursor will appear allowing you to edit text the same way you would in a program like Notebook or WORD.

I do not have a cursor at all when I convert an existing project. I cannot edit a word but must replace it. Is there a setting I am missing? The cursor displays in new callouts I create.

try this ...
with the callout selected on timeline, double click [or sometimes triple click] it in canvas; this should highlight all its text
position cursor at location in highlighted text where you want to edit, and click there
hold shift key and use arrow key to move [invisible] cursor; that should highlight just that select part of text; then type to edit
does that work for you?

Yes! It takes a bit of practice. I will use this going forward but I think the text should convert so I can see the cursor. Maybe Techsmith will fix this?
Thank you for your help!

It was the double clicking part I was missing. Was probably the only time I haven't tried double clicking on something.
Thanks again.

if you have problems selecting the correct object in the canvas, you may also have to lock tracks that have other objects that interfere with selecting the desired object in the canvas; also, try engaging the selection by zooming the canvas in, and clicking on the object's center handle [next to the rotation handle]

Users should be able to edit in the right pane after selecting the text object in the timeline or edit on the canvas. I hope they add this ability in the future.

Sometimes, things glitch out. They shouldn't, but a re-start frees up RAM memory and refreshing things so it's not a bad move.
One way or another,I'd like to hear back if it worked for you.

I see something similar when I double-click a callout in the canvas where that callout is in a group; I get a double presentation of the text, but it is still sharp so I can work in it OK; but it is a strange behavior; it happens when the canvas is zoomed in a lot
could you do a short screencast, host on screencast.com, showing us exactly what you're experiencing?

I watched both of your videos. I tried to reproduce your errors, I can't do it. I thought maybe it was because you were using simple rectangles, as part of the group. Added one, and it didn't change a thing.

I can edit text without getting those annoying double fonts every single time, using Aerial fonts. Just like you guys were.
I studied and reproduced your settings. Font size, style. I winged it on color.
So it's highly unlikely to be Camtasia's doing, it's much more likely has something to do with your computer. A driver needs updating ,something is amiss.
A classic case for contacting tech support.
If you get on the phone right away, you can catch them before their off for the entire weekend.

But, if you can live with a glitch like that, more power to ya.

but my reproducible issue comes from a Library asset, where the misbehaving text callout was created in long-ago previous builds of CS9; there seems to be some glitch with that callout and the CS9 properties control; for example, with the callout [only] on timeline, select the date text [it is italic]; properties cannot discern that the font is italic; delete it, replace with new text, no problem [no double vision]
my conclusion ... asset from earlier build not being handled correctly by current build
not losing any sleep over all this

In your Screencast video, you concluded.I get this all the time,I have a suspicion it's the way the controls are designed, typically even though it's there. If I click off of it, the change stays. It never produces and I'm good to go.
As an outsider looking in, the video was your workflow in dealing with the problem. Your conclusion as to how to deal with it.
One that left melody , and anyone else encountering this issue, without any real solution.
So I started by testing for a problem that doesn't typically exist. And,I didn't find a problem with the callouts. So I suggested tech support.
melody has a Legacy callout in the group as well. Odds are, that may explain it. Another archived project.
So melody, would like to hear back from you, is your issue as well.If not, there's always tech support.
Regards,Joe
Copying the the text and pasting it into a New callout sounds like the logical solution. Saving the changes to the project. Solving the problem for good. "Hopefully"
Legacy callouts should probably be replaced with the newer ones.
TechSmith tends to change features like that without warning.
There's characteristics Legacy callouts offer that the new ones don't. That doesn't ensure their be available several Camtasia versions down the road.
Highlighting the text and using the typical Shortcuts "Ctrl + C" Copy and "Ctrl + V" Paste" works great.

It does appear that the Arial font used in the legacy callout is different than the Arial font in the upgraded version...not as full, thinner. Or so my team observed. Our workflow is to copy text to Notepad and then to Camtasia since our copy comes from many different sources. Notepad removes all the styles, fonts, etc., and makes for a cleaner paste.
The double text issue started when I updated Cam 9. My current build after the update is v9.1.0 (build 2356). Replacing legacy callouts is one option, and one that will take more resources than we have available at present.
So, it looks like we'll have to decide what style we will use going forward and update our video training style guide. Nothing is simple, eh?

Windows Hotkey: Edit Text --> Alt+Enter (not shown in help doc)
--> For text within a group select the text object in the timeline, then hit Alt+Enter to activate the text on the canvas; then double-click the text on the canvas.
-whew, what a pain-
Mac Hotkey: Edit Text --> Option+Return to
Camtasia v2018.0.7 (Build 4045) Nov 9 2018
