Camtasia 9 feedback

Hi there !

I wanted to share my feedback after using Camtasia 9 (PC) vs 8.
Pros :
UI : great
No crash : good so far

Cons :
A lot slower than v8. Even my mouse is slow wehn playing (i'm using a Yoga900 , 16Gb, I7).
No additionnal useful function for me : Sync audio and video, 2x play or auto switch between 2 cams on regular basis.
The sharing on youtube is useless : no planning, no default desc from Youtube, no FB sharing.

The way I am using it is :
- import 1 or 2 video file (1 or 2 cams)
- import audio
- sync
- cut
- switch between cam 1 and cam 2 every 30 sec
- eventually tweaking like zoom or add text
- add intro / outro
- export

Camtasia 9 doesn't help me better than v8 to do that. Or maybe I can get explanations on how to better use Camtasia !

Some effort have been put on transition and other effects but I don't need that. It can look cheesy very easily.

I don't want to dimish the work that has been done but at the same time I am disappointed, I am doing that to help the team !

Thanks,

Her's my feedeback after 2 days of production.

Cons :
- UI : The features are too spread appart. The playback button in the middle is way too big. Lots of space empty.
- Timeline : no more re-centering of the timeline when zooming
- Timeline : It's less fluide to move around in the timeline
- Version 9 is nice but it's all very basic features. This release should have come 3 years ago.

Pros
:
- Text !  : horrible text box is gone! Text edit directly in the canvas. Nice ! It's also easier to resize text dynamically with the bounding box and it renders better. And the new text behaviors. We can now do some cool kinetic text anim.
- UI : properties panel, menu on the left that you can reduce to small icons
- Timeline  : being able to change the start/end of multiple items at the same time
- No crash yet (but only 1 to 2 min videos. Have to see how stable it is with 7min+)

I started a transition to After Effects a couple of months ago but I'm back with to Camtasia with this version.  Good job!

thx.

I know that there is always a learning curve with any major upgrade so I am being patient. I find Camtasia 9 to be so much less intuitive. Managing the properties of the annotations is cumbersome because I am sure that I am probable missing something that I should be doing. For example, If I need to edit the text box, I cannot. So I have to redo the entire text box. Resizing is also an issue. I cannot just drag the edges. I cannot just turn it with the green circle.  Even when I right click edit properties, it doesn't let me.  I have learned to find the correct properties screen on the right which is so much more complicated. But then, it moves my screen instead of the annotation even though that is what I have it set on. I do Camtasia videos for training Physicians so I work with it all day long. This new version is so cumbersome. I cant wait for more training tutorials that go into the details of things that you are perhaps assuming that we automatically know (like the above mentioned). Once I get used to it I am sure that I will love it but right now I am not a happy camper.

You can edit your text by clicking in the text box directly in the canvas and also use the properties panel on the right.

Yes you can. Works better to reduce size. What I do is start bigger and size down .

I am having an issue : when rendering the video, Camtasia is stuck at a certain %. I've tried waiting for a night. Only option is kill the task and start again....

Hi and thanks for submitting your idea/feature request!

As outlined in our New Community Processes post, feature requests are open to voting up through the 1st of the month, where we will then tally the votes and present the findings to our product teams. To ensure we have the most accurate data, on the 1st of the month we will be locking the threads that were listed in the Feature Request Round-up that was posted on the 15th. Once we have reviewed the submitted feature requests, our product team(s) may respond to the request, and if that is the case then that thread will then be unlocked for further discussion.

In the event that your idea is not selected for a response feel free to resubmit the idea and share it with your colleagues to garner as much exposure as possible!

Thank you again for your idea and we look forward to hearing more from you!

Hi Michael;

I have re-opened this thread and re-categorized it as after review by the Product Team it was decided that it does not fit the feature request format; however they have noted your concerns and someone may reach out / respond to this thread in the future regarding your "Cons" sections.

I agree...... it's a pain that you cannot resize an annotation/callout by dragging the corners like you could in Camtasia 8...... why remove features ! !
