I am using Camtasia 9 (Windows 10). While working on a project, most of the time Camtasia freezes. When this happens I exit the program and reopen it. This problem existed in Camtasia 8 as well.
What solutions do would you recommend to eliminate this ongoing annoyance?

This is clearly not a normal situation. The first thing to do is to review the resources of the WIN 10 platform that Camtasia 9 is given to work with. Has it always done this or is this a recent development? Can you tell us how much memory the PC has? How much free space on the hard drive? Others will likely follow with more specific questions for this behavior.
This is unusual behavior in any situation.

Sorry for the trouble. That definitely does not sound like normal behavior.
If you're on an early version of 9, there was an intermittent hang bug that was fixed in version 9.0.3. We generally recommend the latest version, 9.1.2 as of today, as this will have all the accumulated features and fixes since 9.0.0. This is a free update for anyone with 9.x. You can use Help > Check for updates... to get to the latest version.
