Camtasia 9 has just butchered media marker workflow

Short version:
Please change the media marker workflow to be more like that of Camtasia 8

Long version:
I've been using Camtasia since 2009, am a big fan, and generally feel that the product has continually improved over the years.

But the Camtasia 9 media marker creation workflow is a huge step in the wrong direction for productivity.

I write video-based courses for Pluralsight and therefore use Camtasia extensively. I make heavy use of media markers to communicate with my video editor.

Camtasia used to have an awesome media marker workflow.

Camtasia 8 workflow
  • Click on media
  • Type marker text in-place
  • Hit Enter

Camtasia 9 completely breaks that workflow.

Camtasia 9 workflow
  • Click on media
  • Move mouse over marker
  • Right-click on marker
  • Select Rename
  • Look away from media at bottom of screen up to the top-right edge of screen
  • Type
  • Hit Tab
  • Look back down at media
  • Verify that marker displays as expected

In the creation of a single course I often create well over 1,000 markers in total (20 to 40 markers per clip, 10 to 12 clips per module, 4 to 7 modules per course).

In a number cases the break in workflow of creating a marker is so significant, I now often make minor edits myself rather than create the associated markers to ask my editor to make the edit .. this is because it takes roughly the same amount of time to make the edit as it would to create the markers. With the old marker workflow ...  this was not the case.

The change in Camtisia media marker workflow substantially reduces productivity as compared to the Camtasia 8 workflow.

have you tried using short-duration captions instead of markers?
