Camtasia 9 recordings processed with Camtasia 2019

Hello,

just to be sure before doing an upgrade from Camtasia 9 to Camtasia 2019: Is Camtasia 2019 (both Windows and Mac) able to process recordings made with the recorder for Camtasia 9 (both Windows and Mac) or are there any restrictions?

I am asking as I do (and will do for a few months) recordings also on a PC where Camtasia 9 is/stays installed.

Kind regards,

Franz

I can't speak for the MAC. Never owned one.

On Windows all .trec recordings are created the same.
I just recorded a quick .trec with Camtasia 8's recorder , applied the new cursor effect "Smoothing" and it worked as advertised.

I recently updated to 2019 and when I opened an unfinished project (tscproj) made with 2018 the program required 'converting' the project, so I'm assuming anything earlier than 2019 requires converting.  What I am also interested in knowing is if a project is backward compatible; that is, can a 2019 tscpro be opened in version 9?  d

are you now an "official" TechSmith proxy?

regardless, I don't give a hoot what you do

I don't believe anyone at TechSmaith ever characterized my comments as "bad advice"; just that what I described is "unsupported" and "not recommended"

but I stand by what I've personally experienced

do you have an iron-clad, demonstrated, documented technical reason why it's "bad"?  if so, do a screencast, and share it; I have an open mind

what's interesting is that I've been posting on various ways to edit Camtasia project files, for numerous purposes, since Camtasia 6; never received a complaint

curious why you are so side-ways over this?  raw nerve?

TechSmith knows how to reach me if they want

You really should just back off

I've never understood why you insist on pursuing derogatory posts like these; I find them to be very unpleasant and an unnecessary distraction to other forum visitors

and this thread is now way off topic

all I did was answer  jcthewizard's question

again, please just let it go

are you now an "official" TechSmith proxy?...........No, just someone that cares.

curious why you are so side-ways over this?...........  You don't mention the possible consequences associated with following your techniques.  You stop at mentioning them. Stating what you are doing is not recommended.

Official Response
For the record, altering the tscproj json and moving / swapping files that are part of a Camtasia project are not recommended or supported actions. It may cause unexpected results at present and there's a good chance it will corrupt your project now, or in the future. Changing these values may trick older Camtasia projects into being compatible with newer versions of the software, but it also bypasses important project conversion code. They are your files and you are welcome to do what you want with them, but we don't support that behavior and hope you will not recommend altering projects in this manner to other users.

Do you have an iron-clad, demonstrated, documented technical reason why it's "bad"?

Sorry you feel that way. I was trying to address the questions you put to me.

Brooks reached out to you 2 days go. He tried to reason with you. Get you to not encourage others to follow your Path/Advice.

If you insist on posting against TechSmiths wishes and they can't legally stop you?

Don't you think you should at least be more informative as to the possible repercussions.

you just can't let it go, can you

in my previous posts, in other referenced threads, and as stated above, there is no real consequences here; IT's SEEMINGLY RISK FREE, based on my experiences; just follow the recommended protocols

make a copy, work with the copy, see for yourself

if there is a crash & burn, revert to the original, and feel free to throw darts at me

never forget ... where there's a will, there's usually a way

please, enjoy your weekend

If there’s a crash and burn. You’ve lost man hours. That’s real consequences. Having a backup file won’t get back your lost time.

You’re a beta tester of 1 if you will. You utilize Camtasia the way you utilize it. Based on your experience you’ve been OK.

There are Millions of Camtasia users. Countless combinations of ways to utilize the program. You can’t possibly know how these other users might be effected. In the short or the long run.

I’ve been trying to let this go for 3 posts, but you keep responding. And claiming it’s a no consequence, zero sum loss option. That’s simply not the case if things go wrong.

Now, enjoy the weekend , and let it go yourself.

editing the tscproj file to down-convert it takes maybe 30 seconds; next step is to load/open that edited project file; other than for the time it takes the file to open in Camtasia, that's hardly a material loss of man hours/time

more specifically, no one has ever complained that such down-convert has ever failed, again, subject to the caveats previously stated

nothing ventured, nothing gained

Dear repliers to my question,

to my opinion, my original basic question (Can Camtasia 2019 open and process recordings made with the recorder of Camtasia 9) is answered with yes.

The possibilities, pros, cons, chances and risks of "downgrading" 2019-trec-Files by any officially supported and not supported ways and tweaks was not part of my question, nevertheless the discussion on this is quite interesting, and is another topic.

Kind regards,

Franz
