So, I took the usual countermeasures to try and avoid the workflow efficiency-seeking missile, but even after saving > closing > restarting, it stayed on my tail. Then, I rendered the whole thing out, to re-import into a new scene...the missile dropped out of sight....for a second. Still kept getting playback glitches, when I would scrub through the timeline, or choppy playback. Nothing I did got that missile off my tail. It completely blew up my project in Camtasia 9.
So, I import the footage into CS 8 and everything is smooth as butter and like nothing ever happened. It's a shame I had to waste a lot of time and funds on C9 when CS8 works so much better in most every way....except the the crashes that would occur because of the lack of 64bit support.
I also noticed that sometimes I will have major chunks of audio deleted, from earlier in the timeline. It's somehow selecting clips well off the screen and to the left, when I may select a portion of audio and delete it. That has recently cost me HOURS of work...literally hours. Part of that was because Auto-Save somehow keeps removing the autosave file. When I keep the folder it is stored in, open, I can see it initially get created, but somehow Camtasia completely deletes it, arbitrarily and leaves nothing in it's place! Arrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!
Not a happy camper right now. I'm so sick of fighting with bugs, while trying to get my work done. Feeling like posting the comparison on Youtube or something.

What's bad is, C9 makes little things that worked in CS8, no longer function properly. For example....if you detach the canvas to your 2nd monitor, you don't have to mess around with every time you open the app.
It's a pain in the bum to now how to re-locate the canvas and scale it, every time I open the app and I can no longer access my Windows taskbar, in C9. The app prevents it from popping up when you hover over it. That means, when the app launches, I have to minimize it just to access the detached canvas. Just a number of little unnecessary annoyances.
Camtasia 9 has really made me regret upgrading. They won't give you a proper trial, because they place a watermark on your renders without mentioning this important limitation, upfront, and you cannot open C9 project files in CS8.

It's loaded with features and has a lot of special effects to play around with.I still recommenced it for Basic video editing and basic special effects due to it's price.
However, the workflow can be Really Screwy at times.
The problem is that most of the Corel's specialty features have been built around third party plug-ins.
Practically every time you add a special effect using a plugin, a new UI with a separate timeline and Canvas will open.
The Canvas is to small and not even resizable in most cases. These pop up UI's are clunky and unresponsive frequently when applying adjustments.
Effects of the plugins are adjusted using keyframes. The main editor works a lot like Camtasia and uses "Non traditional Key Frame Editing" if you will.
The 2 editing styles clash and the timing of effects can be difficult.
When you add an effect in one UI it doesn't carry over into the next UI so you can actually see what the video looks like with both effects applied.
Some filters will be view-able in the editors canvas simultaneously. But playback is dragged to it's knees and not in real time. The Plug-ins are not fully compatible overall and usually outdated. The same plugins installed in another program like Power Director or something of that nature will be greatly improved and carry an updated version by comparrison.
I've read a lot of your Camtasia comments, I don't think Corel is a good fit for you but that's just my outsider looking in opinion.

Davinci Resolve is now free, although it has a STUDIO version that is still $1k. It's an awesome piece of software, I must say.

Davinci Resolve is pretty nice. However, it doesn't support my high end plug-ins.

As 'luck' would have it I was just starting the editing of a 50 minute video (source started at 10 GB, Handbrake reduced to 2 GB). After applying a few audio adjustments the replay, near the end, had the pastor stuttering. I waited and the stuttering continued. The project was saved, CS8 closed, and the project reopened. Stuttering is gone. This suggests a possible correlation to an otherwise unrelated thread at https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/can-i-edit-cam-8-6-projects-with-cam-9?utm_source=notification&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=new_topic&utm_content=topic_link
dnashj, On occasion, after editing certain cuts seem to cause me choppiness in CS8. I don't have time to test and have always put up with it because I know the final product will be fine. However, as I recall, there have been times when the choppiness went away after saving the project, closing Camtasia, and opening the project.
BTW, were you really able to open your C9 work in CS8?
PS. Techsmith, when will Get Satisfaction give us the ability to mute individuals?

I render out what I have in C9 and import it into CS8, and I don't run into the playback issue, until I reach a point after a dozen or more cuts where the 32bit limitation causes crashes, as it did last night. Was working fine and BAM!!! It crashed. Lost about 15-20min worth of work because of that. So, it's a damned if you do and damned if you don't, in both versions. Just pick your poison, cause they both suck badly in one form or another.
I'm going to try and file a support ticket tomorrow, and hopefully get this issue fixed ASAP. I cannot work like this and it adds a lot of unnecessary aggravation, as you might be able to tell from my posts.

I note that the glitch shows in canvas when playhead traverses the transition; I have observed some instances where transition effects could not be rendered correctly in canvas during real time play; I also see that there is a split under the transition
some things you might try ...
remove transition, unstitch the stitch to left of media separation; play timeline without transition; does canvas behave better?
delete the small section from the split to the media divide; play again; does that help?
add transition back in, but make its duration longer; play again; does that help?
I assume that the glitch shows up in any production?
one last trick ... put short saved frames at end of 1st media, and beginning of 2nd media; with transition, play; does that help
I do not know what causes the transition traverse glitches, but they seem to happen when the the media scenes are complex and very different

I use Premiere Pro extensively and have a strong CPU and GPU.
Premiere Pro accomplishes smooth playback of things like this by either reducing the resolution of the playback window, and/or Pre-rendering playback.
Your dealing with high resolution footage. Certain transitions are graphic intense and timeline rendering of those effects in real time is simply not going to work without some help.
You could try applying a less intensive transition like cross dissolve, that should give you real time playback allowing you to visually adjust the timing of your transitions to taste. Then, before production you could swap out the transitions for what you really want.

I usually try to trim away any excessive pauses, distracting mouse movements....anything I think may keep the tutorials from flowing as smoothly as possible. Choppy playback makes it extremely difficult to do this.

video clip on timeline is 1920x1080?
your project settings are set to 1920x1080?
and the video clip frame rate is 30 FPS or less?
I never experience the issues you are describing; my PC is only a i5 laptop 8GB RAM w/SSD; I work with 1920x1080 clips all the time; complex projects, etc
issues you are reporting are usually due to extremely complex projects with very high numbers of cut edits [a dozen should not have affect you describe]
have you contacted free tech support?
