Camtasia 9 Transitions Black Bar Bug

This problem recently occurred after I switched from "Use Software-Only Mode" for Hardware Acceleration to "Use GPU for video scaling and effects." I tried reversing this setting, but it did not fix the issue, nor did copying&pasting my clips to a new timeline. This issue is also visible after I export the footage.

The problem is that most if not all of my video clips that had either a fade transition or a fade through black transition now have these weird black bars that appear on either the left or right side of my clips of varying sizes. I have tried the workaround linked here:

https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/215138598

But this did not help, though the issues are practically identical, except for the fact that my issues only occur during my fades.

My current solution is to delete all of my fade transitions, but this isn't very sustainable. I am running 2 monitors on Windows 10 if that helps.

could you post a short screencast, hosted on screencast.com, that shows the problem?

were the video clips from Recorder captures [trec]?

if not, what type file are the video clips?

details about video clip dimensions, project setting dimensions, etc would possibly help

assume you mean above that it is the projects that have the transitions?

when you produce, what output file type are you targeting?

Sorry, i was actually able to fix my problem by grabbing my clips from the media folder again and re-trimming them. I don't have any screenshots or videos of the issue anymore, which is unfortunate if there's anyone in the future with a similar problem. The clip dimensions were 1920 x 1080 though, and yes, the project had transitions. I was also producing an mp4.

Thanks anyway for the comment. I appreciate the reply. Sorry it took so long to get back.

I am having this same issue: https://www.screencast.com/t/7aGsXsTpS

The bars only appear when I have transition... also it seems that it only happens if the transition and media are in a group? I have tried everything and can't figure this out.

Media is a Camtasia screen capture at 1920x1080. Project Settings are all 1920x1080. The media is at 100% scale on the canvas.

I don't want to ungroup the media, because I need to have animation that pans all the media over other animations on individual media, which you can only do in a group.

The audio didn't record, sorry... and thank you for your help!

I am also on the latest version, but adding the images inside the group and applying the transition still results in the black bar. The images between the groups work fine. So I actually just went ahead and split the groups and added the images between the groups where this issue is happening. But the video there will show you what I am seeing.

OK; I can't view your media above; what did you use to produce it?

I used Jing. Not sure why that's not working, same program I used for the other screenshots. It works fine for me when I click on it.

But that's ok... I seem to have it figured out with splitting the groups

I was able to view it by updating Adobe Flash Player. It was a Flash video.

Anytime you add a transition within a group. Its prone to create problems for you.

TechSmith is aware of this. They recommend you don't apply transitions within a group.
