To date I have found at least a dozen or more bugs (I have the list somewhere) and I am beginning to wonder if it's just the instability of the software itself and not so much actual bugs. And I too only make 5 -8 minute videos. I need to make some 20 to 30 min videos but that's not happening until Techsmith does their job. It's so unfair! You pay for something and you pay extra to get the good stuff and now the $29.00 software appears to be the way to go.
I wonder if enough people complain, and I am sure 100% of their customers see what we see, but I wonder if Techsmith will do a mass refund/recall. And yes, the software is GREAT! Features are amazing! But only when it works, and that's only 10% of the time and that's only when I do a short 30 second clip. So.. if you're looking for software to edit video onscreen, DO NOT BUY CAMTASIA! Wait for them to get their act straight or you WILL be sorry.
And just so you know, my PC is no slouch. It's a self built Core I7 CPU with 16GB DDR4, all SSD's, and an 8GB DDR5 GPU with Windows 7 PRO! This Techsmith software should be blazing fast as I am way about their "required" system specs, but it's running like a snail on my system. And yes, my system tested 100% stable at last benchmark.
PS.. I really hope Techsmith clears this up. Because so far Camtasia HAS THE BEST set of features out there and I have tested ALL of them when I first started shopping.

I was an early-on CS9 beta tester and submitted approximately 500 bug reports during that time; virtually all of those issues were resolved before 9.0.0. was released to the public
I am able to create complex, heavily edited videos that run upwards to 3 hours, and would like to assist you if possible?
I'm on Win 10 and I note you're on Win 7 ??? My laptop is modest compared to your system

This is what I sent tech support to no avail (They wanted me to make videos showing the bugs - TOO busy to do that.) .. I added new issues I discovered recently as well
#1 .. on some pics, (png or jpg) the custom animation option allows you to waste time setting up the animation, but then it refuses to work. So.. I had to delete it and use a transition.
#2.. found issue (above) was with text.. nvm
#3.. When resizing basic text and moving it to where you need it the software gets VERY VERY choppy! And I am using a high end maching with an I7 CPU, 16G of DDR 4, all SSD’s and a high end AMD video card with 8GB DDR5.
#4.. To avoid issues editing video clips (because Camtasia won’t let you edit accurately) I made an audio clip for the video using different software. (mp3) I have done this before with version 8 with no issues. But now I noticed when I decide to edit out a word or two, when scrubbing the deleted section plays out anyway even though the timeline shows it cut out. After a few scrubs it does finally go away. BUT, if you change the length of a pic or anything else on the timeline near that edited audio, which has nothing to do with the audio track, the cut out audio comes back and you have to scrub over at least 4 times to get it to work right. Camtasia 8 never did that.
#5.. After pasting text into an annotation, if you select any other format than the default the box and the text instantly fill the screen to the max and even hang over the edges you have to start all over again after rebooting the software. Now way possible to get it to work right UNLESS you chose a font (like Arial) before changing its alignment.
#6.. I also tried to resize the text with the slidebar and it made both the text and the box behind it huge and off the page. I had to scroll the box to the right until I saw the resizable line, then resize it a few times to get it to fit on screen.
#7.. The preferences area does not have a way to make preferred borders or shadow configurations. You need to make every shadow and every border when you make each one, In a 15 minute video I have dozens of pics and boxes with text that I need to place borders and shadows behind them individually. Why not have a way to make the shadow and the borders as a custom default?
#8.. When editing text, I noticed that I can remove text and change words just fine. But when I add a highlight and then change my mind that I don’t want the highlight, I hit undo and EVERYTHING went back to the original text. All my editing was gone, not just the highlight. The software won’t undo step by step. It picks when it wants to undo. I had to redo it and then remove the highlight manually.
#9.. I am finishing up a 3 min video and at the end I needed to post some additional text. I paste it in the text and when I hit left justify is maximizes it to 96 in size, the box is gone and there is no way to bring it back to normal. So.. I rebooted Camtasia thinking that will help and nope. It won’t let me paste and then left justify the text. I either have to type in the text manually or change the font to Arial and hope the paste works. 50/50 shot at this time.
#10.. When loading in an unfinished project, if I am using an mp3 as the base audio it loads in very slow.
#11.. Sometimes when hitting “undo” the software undoes 3 to 4 steps behind leaving you with no choice but to delete and start over.
#12.. If you place a callout, change the shadow, color or any other editing, and then place text inside it and retype the text, if you misspelled and hit undo EVERYTHING goes back to when the callout was placed and the redo will not work.
#13.. When stretching a text callout the cursor will freeze and if you wait 3 to 5 seconds it will catch up to where you moved the mouse cursor. But when you don’t expect that to happen, the way it jumps to catch up messes up the entire effect and it goes off screen leaving you with no choice but to hit undo to delete it all.
What used to take 60 mins start to finish edit now takes 3 to 4 hours for a video UNDER 10 MINUTES! Very unstable!!
I hope you can help.

Re # 1 and #2, animations work just fine for me with JPG and PNG images; specifically what happens [here, a short screencast would help]; and what do you mean by text.. nvm?

if so, do not use undo, simple click mouse elsewhere in the callout

on my Win 10 laptop [modest compared to your system], the mouse software offers a way to tweak mouse behaviors per application?

I've pretty much seen it all [the good, bad, ugly]; but the app generally works very well for me
re "your points" ... that means that I do not experience those issues, and cannot reproduce on my system, so I cannot assist further
re the mouse, it was just a suggestion of something [a long shot] you might look into?
you've described numerous glitchy behaviors that it seems are are associated with using the mouse; so perhaps ??
in my opinion, a short screencast video, showing exactly how it happens and what you are experiencing, and hosted on screencast.com, can go a long way is assisting us in helping here

I just noticed another bug or glitch wherein as I am encoding, when it's done Camtasia disappears completely. Only when I wave the mouse around does it come back on screen piece by piece.
To be honest.. I wish I never paid for the upgrade sight unseen and I should have gone for the refund right away.
Thanks again Kayakman.

My apologies for not updating sooner, but I forgot about this thread until it became active again. I have been able to address or work-around most of my initial problems and once I realized I had several problems, was able to sort them more easily. The first was that on my desktop, if a project contained an .avi file imported from elsewhere (Videoscribe in my case), this was causing a constant system hang. The interesting thing was that this only occurred on my desktop and not my laptop and only occurred in 9, never on 8 on either machine. I worked with Mike S at TechSmith through several interactions and we never got this solved. I am sure there is some registry or Codec issue going on, but it was easy enough for me to change the .avi to an .mp4 to get around the problem.
My second set of problems had to do when upgrading Library assets or projects from 8 to 9 and the sometimes strange treatment of legacy call-outs and converting groups to non-editable components of groups. However, since this was a one-time issue, I just redid all my library assets in 9 to make sure I had a clean copy of this. (I must also admit much of this occurred before I isolated the .avi problem hanging the system, so may have confused the two problems to some degree.)
The third and final area of problems had to do with moving to the 64-bit architecture (which I am very glad the did and was waiting for this for two years!). However, on Camtasia 8, I was using a shared networked NAS since I had 21 TB storage there and it worked great. However, with 9, I was getting choppy, erratic, playback on the canvas (when imported files came from the NAS) and it also hung the system many times. Therefore, for new projects, I now use my SSD drive (which unfortunately is only 250 GB and half-full with apps), so my IO bus speed now is much more suitable. But I was getting hangs from using 9 on NAS, whereas Camtasia 8 worked perfectly well with the NAS.
So I now have most issues solved and all issues having at least work-arounds, so in good shape. But over the next few months, I will be using Camtasia 9 extensively again and will be giving it a significant workout, so may uncover some more issues. But for now, it is working acceptably well for me.
