          Hello TechSmith Community;

In recognition of the significant feedback that the community has provided in regard to Snagit, we are putting together a special round-up.
Please visit the below posts and vote on the topics as soon as possible as we will be tallying votes on June 9th, 2017. We need to ensure we have a full understanding of the requests, the reason for the request, and the priority of the request before we take any action. So, we ask you to review these ideas, add anything missing, and vote on your top priorities in the next week (by June 9th). We will first focus on what is most important to our customer base as a whole as judged by the votes, or if there are no standouts we will focus on what is easiest for us to do first. After a week of clarification and voting, we need another two weeks to evaluate the requests, and respond back with our intentions. If we decide we won’t implement a request, we will explain why.

Voting is easy! Just click the Vote button in the upper right corner of any post in the list below.(Just make sure you're logged in to an account)Note that this is not a comprehensive list; if there is a feature not listed here please submit a new feature request. Please be sure to be as clear as possible and include only a single new feature per idea posted; if you have multiple ideas post multiple times.

If you are running into a technical issue or would like to report a potential bug, please open a technical support ticket.

Using Camtasia to record video tutorials,  I really, really, really, really....wish we had a better keystroke callout library...that includes  a mouse icon with buttons highlighted, and perhaps a LMB, MMB, RMB text below it. I see things like this in other online tutorials and think it's a shame that Camtasia doesn't  offer it.  I had to create a set myself, in Photoshop and place them in the media list.

Furthermore, the keystroke callouts are never accurate. I always have a bunch that don't show up. Using that feature is not even worth it, for me...so I have to spend more time doing all of this manually, one keystroke callout at a time. A better Keystroke callout featureset would save a LOT of time and make the presentations look more professional.

When you use CUT it acts like a Ripple Delete command. The Cut tool in Camtasia works better than the one in Premiere Pro, IMO.

One other huge improvement would be the ability to have a floating timeline to place on a second screen. I often work with 20 + tracks and a lot of media in the bin and if I can move Timeline to a second screen (like I can with the Canvas), then I could keep the media bin and Canvas large on one screen and the timeline big on another.

As a user that has been using Camtasia for 6 years now, I'm really glad Camtasia is deciding to get new features from votes. What I am really begging for is 60 FPS support. I've always been looking for new editors lately due to the lack of 60 FPS, but all of them are too complicated and I'm way too used to Camtasia. My gameplays I record via my Capture Card are all 60 FPS, same thing for my YouTube intro, but sadly it isn't a possibility due to the editor's lack of 60 FPS. I hope it's added for both recorder and the editor, because I'll be glad to continue using Camtasia for years to come; Thank you :)

One feature I'd really like to have is the ability to have the option to stop recording based on a timer.

Automatic audio ducking would be a huge help - to enable the background music to be quietened when there is a voice over.  This feature works great in the Apple Clips App on iOS.  Really helps give a professional feel to the video.  (I don't have the time to do it manually.)

Another thing I would really like Camtasia to do, is to set the name of exported captions to match the title of its respective Camtasia Project, just like how the default name of a .mp4 export does this.

          Thank you for caring Robert

          1) Be able to play back the timeline slower than realtime for better cutting and splicing
          2) When you do a recording, it asks where to save the t-rec and you navigate to where to save.  Then when you produce it, you have to navigate to the same folder again.  it should remember the first folder and start there when you save the camproj and when you produce.  i have to browse to the same folder 3+ time
          3) audio level....recently you added gain on top of dragging the timeline audio...this made the problem worse.  there should be 1 area to change the volume and you should be able to enter a # and see it change on the timeline
          4) move microphone calibration from studio/narration to the recorder
          5) "enable playhead snapping" should be on by default
          6) The camtasia recorder should be able to play audio from studio while recording new video
          7) Muting internal mike only while recording with a keyboard shortcut
          8) Camtasia 9: put properties back on the left side
          9) add a way to view/review a recording while its still recording (paused)
          (Edited)

          Hi Ethan;

Thanks for the list; I'll work to include them in the above thread. I am curious about #3, would adding an audio meter to the editor solve that particular need?

          Hi Robert,

I think adding an audio meter will just be putting another bandaid on top of a bad bandaid.  So i'll have to read the audio meter, then have to figure out if i should adjust the gain or the timeline level...thats just more work.

What you really need to do is remove the new gain setting, and make it so we can type in numbers for the audio % level that you see when you drag the audio level on the timeline.  1 place to edit it, but with a value you can actually type in.

BTW, i forgot a really important enhancement: Be able to produce a video, and still record and edit in studio at the same time.  Its very annoying that camtasia is unusable during production.  I recently learning about batch production which has its uses, but i really wish i could produce and record and edit at the same time, without isntalling camtasia on another machine, and remote in to batch produce which is the pain i go through right now becasue i often make a video and produce, make and produce back to back to back.  I honestly don't want to make all 3 then batch, i want to make 1, produce and while producing, make the next

          Thanks

          Ethan

Highly agree with being able to type in a number for Gain Level. When I drag and experiment with it and then want to get another portion of the sound at same level, it is almost impossible to do so exactly.

while you can't type it in on the timeline, if you select the audio, go to the properties that they moved to the right (bad choice), and click the audio button at the top, there is an type-able gain level.  however, changing it there, doesn't change the audio spikes/height on the timeline so you won't be able to look at the timeline to confirm if you set the same gain or not

I am aware of that, but that Gain figure works independently of dragging the Gain up or down in the Timeline, which makes it even more confusing if you adjust both as you are not sure what the original is then or how to control it. I would expect the Gain in Properties to move when I move the cursor in the Timeline up or down, but it does not. It is like there are two Gain controls fighting against each other!

What you are not aware of is that the timeline shows volume and that's not the same as gain, which is why 1 setting doesn't change the other https://www.screencast.com/t/gWOg3MMm3

also, on the timeline, you can have 1 object on your time have different volumes using audio points, but only 1 level using the gain and it changes the entire object, showing that the 2 are completely unrelated from each other https://www.screencast.com/t/3eMYmRs3t

The area where you type in gain needs to be removed

I do all my Gain and other audio processing in Adobe Audition prior to ever loading it into Camtasia, so I am only concerned about Volume at that point. But I do take your point they are different. It is really a number for Volume I want then instead of Gain. I never touch Gain in Camtasia, only Volume. Thanks for being more clear than I was though in terms of differentiating between the two.

In all fairness to techsmith, i am noticing that changing the gain in camtasia does raise and lower the audio on the timeline, and in relative proportion to the increase (200% looks and sounds twice as loud/tall as 100%).

However, since volume and gain are different, and because volume on the timeline is the only way to do audio build ups and fade outs, there needs to be a way to type in values for volume

I would love a keyboarding effect for the text behaviors.  I use keynote for this feature and then open up in camtasia to add music and other images.  It would also be awesome if there were royalty free music and images, as well as visual effects to add to photos similar to the app "Lumyer."  I use this program to create inspirational videos across the social media platforms.  Thank you.

Another one. It's frustrating still to have the mac be an afterthought. I would save time if the Library feature were not just a windows-only tool. Seems hard to imagine why you'd leave that out of the mac version.

Actually, you could do a custom animation and manually resize and/or move around the clip, to achieve the same effect.

I would like to see improvements in the noise reduction feature. I currently export my audio to Audacity and use the noise reduction feature in that tool, then reimport to Camtasia.
The native noise reduction feature compromises audio quality. To completely remove background noise, there is a significant "muddying" of the audio track.

I've stopped using the quiz feature. It's too clunky and unreliable. The creation UI needs to be beefed up and reporting made more reasonable before I could use it in a 100 student university classroom.

Please excuse me if I missed this one, but we really need to allow recording of webcam at a higher resolution.  I recently purchased Camtasia and I'm still using OBS to record any camera footage and also for Narration audio because you're not allowing exports in WAV format, which is another issue I've already voted on.  I would have expected this software to outdo shareware... just saying. ;)

I produce instructional videos for our technicians and customers. We initially purchased Camtasia for screen recording; however, I was blown away from it's simple, yet effective approach to video editing. After using Camtasia 8 & 9 for about a year and a half, here are things I'd like to see implemented and why:

Setting to disable Camtasia 9 from launching after saving a screen recording.
This will give flexibility and efficiency to those who records first and edits later. Camtasia 8 did not launch after saving a screen recording, but does in 9. You could leave Camtasia running; however, users may not want the Camtasia program minimized in the recording. This can be a checkbox setting to launch Camtasia after saving the recording.

Ability to use the eye dropper tool outside of Camtasia.
Programs like Adobe Photoshop allows you to use the eyedropper tool outside of the application. In Camtasia, you have to add a picture or video onto the canvas before you can extract the color with the dropper. This can be a nuisance when there's a large number of tracks in the timeline. This will make the process more efficient.

Improve the process of adding content into an existing group.
In order to add a new clip into a group, you have to drag and drop it over the heading of the group. This can be finicky, especially when there are a large number of tracks on the timeline. Sometimes it'll open for a split second before closing. What would be nice is if you right-click a group, there can be an "Expand Group" option that will leave the group expanded until you click it again. An option to add another track into the group can also be helpful in these situations.

Ability to minimize a track even further on the timeline.
I would like to view more tracks on the timeline at times. In my opinion, I think the track heights should be minimized even further, like half of what we can currently minimize to. If the idea was to keep the Eye and Lock buttons visible when minimized, you can have them appear to the left and right of the track name.

Ability to lock specific visual properties from animation.
I often find myself needing to change the color, shadow parameters, or other visual properties of a callouts that have animation points. I'll end up having to change each animation point with the new value, which can be cumbersome. To prevent this, I have to put the callout in a group prior to adding the animation. Another idea could be adding the ability to separate animation changes to a specific visual property of a clip.

Ability to animate specific properties of a clip/callout.
Sometime you may want to adjust the opacity, shadow, etc. on a clip that already has animation; however, you end up creating an additional animation point. If we can add a feature to have a simple (the current way of animation) or specific animation, it will give us more control. This will allow us to adjust the animation points individually without affecting the other properties. For example, I may want to adjust the movement, but do not want to change the speed of the opacity going to zero.

          Audio Equalizer and Filters
I currently use Ableton to process the voiceover and music. Ideally you want the voice to be the focus, so I use Ableton's EQ to reduce the frequencies in the music where the voice fits in. Additionally, I use their filter to remove any unwanted low and high frequencies that cause rumble, harshness, and muddiness.

          Canvas Gridlines
Self-explanatory. Very useful when laying things out on the canvas and keeping things consistent and neat.

That's it for me. I saw and voted for a lot of the great features that the others requested. If I'm too late, hopefully this will make the next one! Thanks guys!

All of these are excellent ideas and fully support and request also. Thanks for the list of suggestions.

Anything to do with cleaning up audio! I record interviews over Skype and sometimes have to export the audio to a different program to "clean up" the noise. I would love it if Camtasia had a more robust audio editing/cleanup options. Also volume equalizing!  And the ability to see how loud it is so that I could make all my shows become uniform in their volume.
