Camtasia for mac sucks. Cannot record from iphone screen, as recording will not stop. Program bombs out frequently causing me to save every after every edit. It seems like its filled with bugs. Support cannot fix my problems, running latest release.

Hi Dean,

It stinks that you're having these issues!

Some of the camtasia configuration data is stored in your user profile, as a quick test measure, I would open Mac system preferences and go to users and create a new user, then restart your Mac and log in with that user, if the problems go away, then you will have isolated it to something about your user profile, and that is much easier to troubleshoot.

Jack’s idea is worth trying, for sure.

I use Camtasia for Mac quite a bit, and am pretty happy with it.. But one complaint I have is some the features are different on the PC vs the Mac.

Case in point:

On a Mac, the Clip Speed effect only affects the speed, and not the pitch — very useful for fine-tuning timing issues.

On the PC, the Clip Speed effect affects PITCH — pretty useless to me as a “Speed” effect.

Jack,
Setting up new user profile didn't work. The bug was reported in December. It's already been verified by Techsmith, when doing screen recording from iphone, you cannot stop recording without bombing program.
WHEN WILL IT BE FIXED??????????
Support told me "who knows?" And offered me no work around,
Want to be my champion? Please go find out for me.

I certainly feel for Dean -- I have similar frustrations with:
  1.  The inability to capture stereo audio on a Mac, when using an external sound device (mine is via Firewire)  when I have already been able to do it with other screen video capture tools (it seems like Techsmith just doesn't care about this -- an oh, the issue has been know for at least a couple years, if not more.)
  2. Poor quality of webcam recordings on a Mac, when the same camera works fine with other tools on a Mac, or with Camtasia on a PC.
The bottom line is that when a user has a frustrating issue with Camtasia, the Techsmith folks need to pay more attention -- we are all users that PAID for the software.

While I wouldn't go far as to make the same blanket statement as the OP did, I will say that version 3 is far buggier than version 2.  I have already gone through the hassle of a full deletion of the old version, removing all settings and latent files that may be lurking and I find version 3 to be far inferior as far as stability and overall experience goes.  Randomly, my mouse doesn't grab a segment in the timeline, or when I click it, it randomly shrinks that segment...my app randomly crashes, I routinely get odd messages like "some other application has made changes to this file" when I go to save it, even though I just created it 5 minutes before, and haven't even TOUCHED another application, and on and on and on.  I wouldn't say I am a disgruntled customer, but I will say I am pretty disappointed at the QA that was/was not performed on the latest Mac version.

Yes, I have called support.  No they can't help me because all my issues are random and/or unrepeatable.  I hate the whole "well it's not happening on my end so..." thing, even though I totally understand it.  I will say that I am on the same machine that I used v2 on, with no major changes to it, other than upgrading to the latest versions of MacOS.  It's just frustrating to pay to upgrade to the "new and improved" version, only to find it is "new and inferior" instead.

Here's to hoping v4 is more stable!
