I'm a Camtasia for Mac user with Camtasia 3 license and I need to record short clip on a Windows Machine. I have a project that requires me to take a short screen recording on a Windows machine. I will be editing and rendering the rest of the tutorial video on my Mac, and do 95% of my work on a mac, so I don't want to have to purchase a new license. Can I use my mac license for windows, or use a free trial to record and then edit it on Camtasia with mac without worrying about the free trial watermark, or is there any other way?

In short, Yes, you can install 2 copy's of the software as per the license agreement.

1.2      General Use. Except as otherwise provided in this EULA and so long as you comply with the terms and conditions of this EULA as a condition to the license granted herein, you are licensed to install and run one copy of the Software on one licensed device (the first licensed device) for use by one person at a time. Provided that you comply with all the terms and conditions of this EULA and when required by the Software, you present a valid, authorized, and activated Software key, you may also install and run a second copy of the Software on a second licensed device for use only by you for your internal business or individual use only, whichever is applicable. Only one person at a time may use the Software on each licensed device and the two licensed devices may not be used simultaneously by that one person. The components of the Software are licensed as a single unit, and you may not separate or virtualize the components and install them on different devices. By way of clarity, if this license has been entered into by an entity or organization, the copies of the Software licensed hereunder may only be used for the internal business purposes of the licensee entity or organization.

Just install Camtasia 9 which would be the cross platform licensed equivalent for Camtasia 3.

You can download and install a new or an older version from this link.

You can activate it with your Camtasia 3 Key.

Realistically, I would think that you could even forget about activiating on the Windows machine and just use it in trial mode. Make the recording, then copy the TREC file to a thumb drive and transfer it to the Mac for editing.

If it were me, I would skip the hassle of installing and running Camtasia on a new device and just record the screen on your Windows machine, then copy the video file over to your Mac.  As long as it's an MP4 or other widely-accepted video format, you should be ok

Are you meaning perhaps that you would establish a remote desktop session from the Mac to the PC? Otherwise, how would you record the PC screen?

Truth is that we are now exploring that option, although on the Developer's machine (rather than mine), so will still need to download Camtasia onto his machine. As the key is good for two users, that should be possible, and I'll just ask him to uninstall afterwards, so he doesn't take up the second instance unnecessarily. Hopefully that will work. Thanks for all your comments!
