I produced an MP4 video. When I saw that it did not pause at the start, I went back and produced an MP4 with Smart Player. The pause at start did not work. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if it applies to this, but other aspects of the Smart Player don't work properly until you upload all the output files to a web server and run things from there.

Are you testing by just playing things from your local hard drive? If so, you may need to test by uploading the files to a web server.

Cheers... Rick :)

It's my own understanding that they should work as well if you upload the complete set of files and folders to a web server. The only thing that may be ScreenCast specific is the reporting feature of quizzing.

Hopefully TechSmith will pop in here to clarify.

The final destination for the video is Vimeo. I would hope that there it could be a standalone MP4 with captioning, even if it is not closed captioning., I'm also hoping that Vimeo will do a pause at the start. However, I need to test it. I can upload it to our own sever but how does that work? Do you post a link to the video but put the entire directory of files into the web server? Thanks.

What do you mean by "a pause at the start"?

We use Vimeo to host our content. When someone accesses a video, they have to manually start it, though I'm pretty sure that auto-starting is an option.

I haven't tried captions, so I can't help you with that.

Hi Kenneth,

Do you have to click on a big play button to start the video?

You should see this button if you have "Paused at start" checked.

To host a Smart Player production to your own server, you upload all the files produced from Camtasia.  This includes html, JavaScript, CSS, XML and the MP4 files. Once they are uploaded you will point your browser to [production-name].html file.  That file should load everything up for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Ben,

Thanks. That seems like a lot of overhead but okay.

I experimented. A simple MP4 on Vimeo without a smart player does pause at the start. However, it shows captions and there is no way for a user to turn them off.

So I have a smart player version. The problem is that I need to put this on Vimeo, where all our videos are hosted. I do not see a way to upload an entire directory and provide a link to the HTML file.

That means that if I want to host the video on Vimeo, which is our standard procedure, I have to get rid of the ADA support. That should not be required. I hope this won't have to be a feature request but if it is, please modify Camtasia to allow for creating an ADA-compliant MP4 that can have CC turned on or off. Thanks.

A mp4 can't have captions included in the video unless they are burned in.
Which means they are always on the video. No way to hide or turn them off.

Closed Captions  that a viewer can click on the CC button of the players control bar and hide them is a function  of the player used.

How Closed Captions are usually done on a video platform like Youtube or Vimeo is that you upload a SRT, WebVTT, DFXP/TTML, SCC, or SAMI captions file.

I know on Youtube, They can create a file for you from your video to use.
I don't know all of Vimeo's options.

Here is some info for Vimeo that may help you sort it out.
