Camtasia Studio 7 Why won't deleted speech disappear?

I am using Camtasia Studio 7 on Windows 7. I have been using Camtasia for several months and was very glad to start succeeding at deleting little bits*. However, yesterday I tried repeatedly to get rid of a couple of small bits and no matter how many times I cut them, they refused to go away. I was working on captions at the time. Is the captions tool the problem?

As a side issue, I have tried training my computer to recognize my voice, but a) the speech recognition program seems to get stuck on the same sentence about half way throgh; and b) Camtasia's attempt to recognize my voice would be hilarious if it were not for having to significantly revise every single caption. Any suggestions? I have looked at a TechSmith page on getting better recordings, but did not see much that would help otherwise. Thanks.

*(It seems like I always start coughing every few seconds when recording, even though I don't do that in normal conversation.)

In CS8, don't know C9 and don't remember CS7, each track has two options beside the track name.

  1. Turn track off to disable content
  2. Lock or unlock track

If either are enabled the cut won't happen.

If that is not the issue then wait for an expert!
