Hi Daniel,
Just recovered from this "Camtasia Studio has stopped working" stuff, so thought to share the solution for the benefit to all. By the way, I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. Do the following:
1- Right click My Computer > Manage
2- Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application
3- Level (tab), find the latest Error (red) log and click to see the details beneath
4- Find the "Faulting Module Name" and check which application is causing error? In my case, it was:
Faulting module name: QuickTime.qts_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5180f322
So, I uninstalled "QuickTime" application from PC; and that worked!
^
So, the punchline is, locate the application that is causing the error, which can be seen from Faulting module name. Simply copy that error log line and paste into Google to get an idea.
Regards.

Thanks so much. When I launch Camtasia Studio 8, it appears the splash screen, but it appears "Camtasia Studio has stopped working". Then i follow your guide and found this :Faulting module name: vorbis.acm, version: 0.0.3.6, time stamp: 0x50a51541
And look at "Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\vorbis.acm"

I went to this path and delete "vorbis.acm" file. Finnal, camtasia can work normally, thank you so much ^^

I also had this problem (though I was producing (rendering) movie tracks of my screen recordings). The solution was this: I transformed all of the recordings into mp4 files separately and then combined them all together as one video. It worked for me.

I had a user with similar issues. I followed the steps InvisibleAnalyst gave and the application error log indicated the issue was related to C:\Windows\system32\MSVCR100.dll. This is a file related to Windows C++ 20xx Redistributable. I attempted to repair and reinstall, but same error where "Camtasia Studio has stopped working" pops up when the 7+ minute project was about 87% done. I advised it may be the Flux Capacitor*, but apparently her desktop did not have this.

She contacted TechSmith support and the solution they sent worked:

 1) First, save your project and close out of Camtasia Studio.

2) Open Camtasia Studio on it's own with a blank project, then go to Tools > Sharing > Batch Production.

3) Click on Add Files/Projects..., locate your .camproj (project) file and open it. Click on Next.

4) Choose the production option you would like (such as MP4 with Smart Player (up to 1080p)) and click Next.

5) Finally, choose a local C: drive destination to produce to and click finish.

She had been running it from a network share and saving to same network share. Also, she had never done the Tools > Sharing > Batch Production before and suspects that is what fixed the issue for her.

So, the Batch Production may be worth trying for anyone else encountering this issue.

* That Flux Capacitor line above was a joke. Never use one of those unless you are in a Dr. Brown approved DeLorean DMC 12 or a late 1880's steam powered locomotive.

I catch the error that makes Camtasia was not working is Webcam, I use Logitech Webcam so when I unplug is from PC, this time, will work fine but when is plug-in the Camtasia is not working, so try unplug your webcam or uninstall the driver in Device Manager and try open Camtasia, and I post in Windows Community about the issue: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_apps-insider_other/applications-has-stopped...

Thanks for letting us know. When using pre-release versions of Windows, please do make sure to report errors to Microsoft. Microsoft has teams that focus on app compatibility, and they do watch for errors in popular applications, and try to resolve those errors prior to releasing new updates. Whenever possible, we try to test and fix issues too. Sounds like Microsoft fixed this one, for which we are thankful.

Well, I don ́t know why, after a few hours, same error again, don ́t open more, when open before request register, provide credentials and open fine. A few minutes ago try open Camtasia again and don ́t open, checked event, same trouble, weird. I don ́t install nothing today in my pc. Well I will report for Microsoft again.

I have completely given up on Camtasia Studio. The most expensive license I have paid for ever ($297) plus another $100 on Udemy courses and I spent more time troubleshooting than I did editing. I have uninstalled Camtasia and I now use Wondershare Filmora. $49 and trouble free. Goodbye Techsmith and goodbye Camtasia.

Mr. Clayton, if you think Camtasia will drive you mad, try "Storylie 2". OMG! At least Camtasia will autosave and bring you back to pretty close to where you were, and the output is fine. "Storylie 2" will change fonts, sizes, everything to whatever it wants whenever it wants, and that's in the published output. No way to tell it's going to happen and no way to fix. It's been going on over 4 years!

So comparatively,  Camtasia is as solid as a rock.

My 2 cents.
