Camtasia Super Slow

Camtasia is super slow doing everything.  It was slow in 2018 and I just upgraded to 2019 and have the same problem.

I’m recording multiple clips and after the first one things just bog down.  Just dragging a clip to the timeline is nearly impossible.  Any tips.  I’m on a Mac.

Thanks,
Aaron

Caveat: I use PC, not Mac.
Whenever I've had a problem like this, it's because Camtasia can't handle the video container. I've had huge problems with .MTS files.
Try using Handbrake - import your video files to this program and process them to MP4, to the resolution you want, for instance 720p.
Open a New Project in Camtasia. Before importing your media, be sure to go to the Project Settings (buried inside the Zoom menu) and set the project to your chosen dimension.
Then import your "Handbraked" files.
Camtasia should run faster.

Thank you for the reply and suggestion.  It doesn’t make sense that Camtasia can’t handle the video file in my instance.  Here is what happens.

I record around a 45 second clip in Camtasia - talking and capturing my iMac screen.  Then I do the same thing for the second clip.

So at this point I have just two short video clips.  When I drag the second one to the timeline things just start to get super slow.  It’s like I can’t even drag it, or do anything.  I get the spinning beach ball on the Mac.

There shouldn’t be a problem like this with such a basic task.  This is what Camtasia is meant to do.  I can record dozens of separate clips and string them all together in Screenflow and there is never a hiccup.  So I right now I have to use SF because I’ve got tons of videos to do and it’s just so easy.

It’s really a drag because Camtasia has so many features I love that Screenflow doesn’t have.  Hopefully tech support or someone In the forum can offer a solution.

By the way, I am using the highest resolution.  I’ll try reducing that.

Thanks again for the reply,
Aaron

When a Mac app gets super slow it it typically a memory issue. Try rebooting your machine, then launching Camtasia alone. If the problem persists, come back with your OS and computer specs, especially memory and available disk space.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I typically run Camtasia with no apps running so I don't think it's a memory problem.

My iMac has 40 GBs of memory and it's an 8 core machine - the latest.

I worked on it yesterday and it was fine so I'm not sure what was happening the previous two days.

Tech support suggest getting rid of my other version of Camtasia and reinstalling 2019 using a fairly involved set of instructions which include the console.  I will probably try that tomorrow.

Thanks again Dave,
Aaron
