Camtasia Updates Screw-up My Taskbar and Organization

I use Camtasia frequently enough that I have the icon pinned on my taskbar.
Now, with these frequent updates, after a new install, I hit the icon and get an error message saying, basically, the icon isn't attached to anything.

So, I have to remove the old one, dig up and pin the new one ... until the next update.

Some how when there are updates to other softwares that I have pinned, they don't create this work for me.

Chrome, Firefox, Excel, PowerPoint. They update and the pinned icon still works. It'd be nice if Camtasia worked the same way.

I agree, SnagIt does the same thing.

Software-as-service is proving to be ongoing agitation. It's not just Camtasia, it's Snagit, Excel, YouTube, all these different apps and softwares making changes in their own bubble. As a consumer at the confluence of all this, it's unnerving.

One day I couldn't find the icon to upload a YouTube video. Oh. They changed the upload arrow to a camera overnight. Oh! And Windows10 just updated itself while I was at the store, restarted the computer and left me with a bunch of temp files to review.

All those small things add up, and I've developed a reluctance to using a lot of apps and softwares. They become a relationship that we lose control of, and they make changes without input or warning or choice. We just have to deal with it.

And here we go again. I just updated today and have to fix my taskbar on both of my computers. This is truly annoying.

I have found that with Camtasia, the icon for the editor gets whacked; if you have a desktop shortcut for Camtasia, that is deleted, and replaced with a new shortcut; I believe that is why the task bar icon for the editor gets broken; so when updating, before I do the update, I just unpin the task bar icon; after the update, on first launch, I just pin the app again

I also pin the Recorder icon to the task bar; this icon does not get whacked after an update, and continues to work OK

do you have the Camtasia installer add a short cut to your desktop?

if so, when you do a in-version upgrade [like 2018.0.5. to 2018.0.7], the desktop icon is deleted and a new one added; the upgrade is what is breaking your pinned task bar icon

regardless, to resolve the issue, just unpin any task bar Camtasia icon before you upgrade; then re-pin after you launch the updated version
