Camtasia v9.1.5 just stopped recording system audio

Yesterday afternoon, after weeks of recording system audio without issue, Camtasia recorder just stopped recording system audio. Nothing changed. I just stopped a recording, it opened in Camtasia 9, and there was no audio track, and no audio on playback. I separated audio and video into separate tracks, and there's nothing on the audio track at all.

I've messed around with the system audio settings, changing the output device, but nothing seems to work.

Seems like this was an issue with version 8, and no solution was ever offered here in the forums, so I'm not super hopeful we'll get this resolved.

Probably I'll start using OBS (which I have installed on a different computer) for this type of work moving forward. I don't need the bells and whistles of Camtasia, since I'm just capturing raw material for Premiere Pro, but since I paid for this software, it would be nice to get it to work again.

Just to be the guy who asks the obvious questions... I assumed you've tried rebooting? I've had the occasional issue where something happened on my computer that it didn't like and I had to reboot.

It could also be an issue with other software that's running or was recently installed.

Yes. Rebooted the system. Totally expected the issue to be resolved. Was really disappointed that it persists.

Also, I was working on a video production project all day, with Premiere Pro running the entire time. Nothing changed in terms of software, updates, etc. It worked fine to record for the first part of the day, then in the afternoon it wasn't recording system audio.

In both cases, I was recording audio from Chrome browser.  Two different sites, but when it stopped, I went back to the first site, where I could record audio, and it was also not recording there as well, but ultimately, it's all System Audio, so it should record based on the settings.

I screencapped the audio settings above. Let me know what other setting screens you'd like. Happy to include any that will help.

I should note that "Audio Settings" is an inactive button on the options screen, as is "Video Settings."

The screen you see when you command Camtasia to record. Looks like this after you click that drop down arrow to the right:

Annnnd...suddenly it's recording system audio again.

I didn't make any changes. I just tried recording again, making sure that Chrome was showing up in the Audio Mixer list (which I did yesterday too), and now I have audio on the recording.

If I knew what changed, I would happily share the info, since I know I'm not the only person who's had this issue.

My guess is that because YouTube wasn't actively playing audio at the time I started the Camtasia recorder, Chrome had dropped off the mixer list, and somehow this gets locked once Camtasia starts recording. That said, I'm pretty sure that I used this same workflow previously and it worked fine. Maybe I'll keep testing, once I get my actual work done.

Well as we all know, the best ways to fix a computer issue: Simply ask someone else for help or to look over your shoulder. Amazing how often things start randomly working again when I do that haha

I run into all sorts of audio issues in general, especially if I have any audio editors open or have recently plugged in any mics or headphones. I figure it's bad karma for all the MP3s I downloaded off Napster back in the day.
