Camtasia 2 for Mac: preview play not working in editor screen

It worked a minute ago, but now preview play doesn't work in my editor screen. The button itself changes from an arrow to pause, but the marker just sits there. I tried opening a different project and the same problem occurs. Any ideas?

Hm, that is strange indeed. You can't play in two projects at the same time, so I suppose if you had another window hiding behind that was playing, that could be the trouble. But as it is, I would restart camtasia, and if that didn't help, I'd restart your machine.

If the 'ol restart-and-try-again isn't helpful, please let us know and we can dig deeper.

I too am experiencing this problem with Camtasia 2 for mac. I've restarted it, and I've checked for windows hiding behind it playing something. I still can't get it to work.

We recently had one case come through our tech support where the issue ended up being, strangely enough, that his or her default playback device was the mic port on a Yeti mic, and it didn't jive well with Camtasia.

To check if this could be your problem:

  1. Quit Camtasia

  2. Open System Preferences, Sound

  3. Output Tab

  4. Choose "Built in Speakers" or "Line Out"; anything... not... weird...

let us know if that was the issue!

Paul, I am experiencing the same difficulty & it may be related to my USB wireless Jabra (high-end) headset. Switching to Built in Speakers is not a solution as I am in a workspace that requires using a headset.

Is TechSmith working on this problem?

Thanks!

Kerry

It'd be helpful to know if that is even the problem, first. If it is, it will give us something solid to go on to figure out why it might not work.

I'm looking into this. It looks like an issue with mono output devices. If you submit a support ticket, there's something we'd like to try out to fix the problem. You can submit a new support request here: https://support.techsmith.com/anonymo...

I just installed Camtasia 2 for Mac: on my MacBook Pro OS X10.8.2 and I'm having the same problem. Preview play doesn't working in editor screen. Neither the arrow nor the space bar do anything. The time indicator just sits there and doesn't advance. The same thing happens regardless of the selected output devise (headset, built in speakers, etc.) I can export to mp4 and play the recording, but it won't play in the preview window.

This is very inconvenient. What should I do?

Hi Glenn,

I've usually seen this when an audio device gets disconnected.

Could you try Paul's steps above to choose a built in output and let us know if that affects anything?

I too have the same issue, I've restarted my computer, opened and closed Camtasia plenty of times, changed the sound output plenty more times, opened different Camtasia files...

Whether it be I use my mouse to click the arrow or use my space bar, I have yet to come up in my mind a solution for this delima in which I dread to be in. Mind you, I have fully bought and downloaded Camtasia online, so this is the actual product I have, not some patch or rip off from the internet. No. This is from the actual website from which it was originally distributed. Thank you.

My specific problem (and solution) is as follows:

I was able to record everything fine with my bluetooth headset. But as others pointed out, I could not use preview to listen to my recordings. Actually, the cursor wasn't even moving to indicate that it was playing.

Of course, I can use any other audio program and even the camtasia video tutorials on my headset and everything is fine.

So, to solve the problem, when I want to hear my recording, I need to disable my wireless headset, and use the built-in speakers. That seems to make it work again.

Not sure if it's a Mac bug or Camtasia.

Same problem.

I record a video with my USB mike plugged in - it works.

I save my work. Come back the next day. Same setup. And the editor play button doesn't work. Can't play.

I also can't record any new video. I am basically stuck.

The play button will work when I changed my audio output to internal speaker.
But even then I can't play or record. Stuck again.

Very frustrating. Please fix. I love this product and don't want to switch to another.

Hi Jonathan,

Did you try restarting Camtasia?

the problem was that the software did not know which audio to output the audio as it could not detect the speaker or the mic speaker

Things have definitely gotten into an odd state if it won't even close. If you haven't yet, force-quit it by hitting command-option-esc, and killing it off from the window that comes up. After restarting it, you should get a chance to recover your project.

Does it work after that?

As you pointed out, frost, this thread was started 3 years ago, so we've fixed a lot of issues since then, but if you're having a new one we should try to figure it out!

Hello, I'm using Windows 10, my Camtasia worked your fine, but now this is happening. I re-started Camtasia, opened a different project, re-started my computer and the problem remains. Can anyone help me?

Hi, I noticed you are talking about windows 10, but replied on a thread about Camtasia for Mac v2. So, I'm not sure what version you have or whether you have the same problem as the user who started the thread.
If it's a problem with the preview, it may be best to open up a support ticket, because those types of issues are usually very machine specific, and they'd be able to look at your particular hardware to track this down:
