Camtasia 8.2 crashing

I always install the latest version of Camtasia and did so this week with version 8.2
However it has just crashed twice while trying to render out a project. This is the first time I've had to uninstall Camtasia and reinstall a previous version. 8.1 works fine and was able to render the video with no problems. Anyone else with this problem?

8.2 is loaded with issues. I doubt the new features are even in great demand.

The two main things in this release are:
  • the ability to easily upload pictures and videos from a mobile device to Camtasia or Snagit via the new Fuse mobile app
  • Integration with Google Drive. For Camtasia, this means the ability to import files stored on Google Drive into the clip bin and have Google Drive as a production destination, similar to the YouTube and Screencast.com production paths

You could(before 8.2)sync videos from phone to computer and then load them into Camtasia

Thanks for posting here. We've had some reports come in via tech support and this forum of higher memory usage during production that can lead to a crash. We're currently testing a fix and are planning on issuing a maintenance release shortly.

You guys rock, as per usual. Is it possible to share whether or not that maintenance release will also contain a fix for the Windows temp folder being used during MP4 production as well? I really hate to sound impatient, but the way I manage my OS is actually different in an inconvenient way as a result of having to accommodate that issue. Either way, keep up the good work!

Yep, currently that and a fix for this memory leak are what we've got planned for 8.2.1.

I want to add that I have been having major issues trying to produce my projects since I've upgraded to 8.2.  I'd love to revert back but unfortunately I've spent days editing my projects in 8.2.

Two questions:

1. I assume that the 8.2 created projects would not be backwards compatible.  Is that true?

2. How soon will the 8.2.1 patch be available?

At the moment I am attempting to produce an hour long project using the 720 mp4 preset and source material that is .camrec and .mp4 webcam footage.  this workflow was working fine with version 8.  The Window 7 machine I'm using has 16Gb or ram, 3.7Ghz i7 processor.

Your help greatly appriciated

1.  Projects created with 8.2 should be compatible with 8.1.2.

2.  We're currently wrapping up testing on 8.2.1 but you can contact tech support for a pre-release build.

We issued an 8.2.1 maintenance release yesterday. The download link is available via the 'Help -> Check for updates' menu item in Camtasia Studio.

Having just spent a long night editing several videos which took far longer than necessary due to the need to save my project after every edit due to the frequent crashing in version 8.2.1 (Dec 9th), using Camtasia has now begun to feel like a chore rather than the pleasure it has always been in the past. I know you will get this sorted eventually and are on the case as the frequent updates illustrates but with a stack of projects to edit, I hope you do sooner than later.

@stock:  I'm sorry to hear that you're having such difficulty with editing projects.  If you're experiencing frequent crashes with the 8.2.1 release then it may be an issue that we're not aware of.  Please get in touch with our TechSupport staff by visiting http://support.techsmith.com and submitting a ticket there.  Our TechSupport staff will follow up with you by email to help troubleshoot further.  If it's a new issue, it will be escalated to the development team and we will address it as soon as we can.
