Camtasia 8 - video not registering 'Completed' in LMS

SCORM question - We have some videos that we upload to our LMS without quiz questions. In Camtasia 7, when the learners reached the end of the video and closed the window, it would register as 'Completed' in the LMS. Now we're using Camtasia 8, and in the same scenario where a learner reaches the end of the video and closes the window, it registers as 'In progress' in the LMS. Is there some setting that I need to adjust so that it will register as 'Completed' in the LMS when the learner gets to the end of the video?

Best regards,
Kimberli

I just want to clarify that I am producing the SCORM package using Custom Production Settings -> Produce with Conroller -> under Reporting I check 'SCORM' and click 'Options' then select 'Produce zip file'. Then I upload the produced zip file to my LMS.

I have tested with both CS7 and CS8, and the video produced from CS7 will register "completed" in the LMS after I reach the end of the video, while the video produced from CS8 still shows "in progress" in the LMS after I reach the end of the video.

Looking forward to hearing from someone who can tell me how to adjust some setting in CS8 so that it works the way I need it to! Thanks!

Best regards,
Kimberli

Hi Kimberli - Same issue with us. We use HRsmart LMS platform. Camtasia7 provides a status; Camtasia 8 doesn't. Same video and scorm properties. We updated version 8 to 8.0.2 which is supposed to fix SCORM but no luck so far.

Hi Kimberli,

We are currently aware of an issue with SCORM packages that do not contain a quiz. This causes the scenario you described. We are working to fix the issue in an upcoming update. Could you supply the specific LMS you are using so we could verify the fix?

Thanks for the quick follow-up, Ben.

We use Sum Total's 'GeoMaestro' LMS.

Kimberli, Don,

Camtasia Studio 8.0.2 was released last week. We made several fixes to the SCORM output. Please let us know if you still have problems after you update Camtasia Studio and create a new production using SCORM output.

Hi Ben - We updated 8.0 to 8.0.2 this morning. We are still having issues with SCORM not updating the user status to complete/passed in the LMS. I am happy to get on a call with your developer team and share my screen to provide live demonstration.

Hi Joanna,

Are you using SCORM with quizzing or without quizzing? What LMS are you using?

Have there been any updates to this yet? I'm getting beaten up pretty bad by this issue. I'm sending out reports to managers indicating their employess have not completed assigned training by the specified time to find out they have completed the training and our new training website we've been talking up for the past several months is the culprit.

Well, we know the issue isn't with the website but my employees don't care about that.

I just need to get this resolved.

I'm producing scorm videos without quizzes that unless they let it play all the way through to the end it doesn't show complete.

I'm also having issues with quizzes that I do build into the videos not reporting detailed results. I'm only getting % scored correctly, but can't see what questions they got right or wrong.

Both of these issues are making a lot of extra work for me so PLEASE give me some good news somebody....

I'm in touch with the Camtasia Product Manager and hope to get more info soon. I will share!

Also, camtasia produced videos with quizzing does not allow you to extract metrics on user responses -- only the overall score is captured and passed back to your LMS.

As far as your dilemma, I'd recommend reproducing the video in Cam7 and replace it in your LMS. Then either manually give credit to users who accessed the Cam8 version. Not sure if you can replace or updated video "versions" in your LMS or if you need to create a new Course all together for the new video; if so, you'd probably want to move everyone from the Cam8 version Course to the Cam7 version course and give credit, or send them the link to the Cam7 version and have them click on it so that they automatically get the credit.

Lots of lessons learned on my end - happy to help!

Yeah - who knew being a trainer required my still needing to learn stuff?!

Do you have issues having both version of Camtasia (7 and 8) installed on your machine? I've done some research here and there seems to be some horror stories out there about trying to do that. Or has the latest version (8.0.2) fixed it so I should be okay? When I installed 8 last month I just un-installed 7 thinking I wouldn't need it.

I have both on my machine and no, 8.0.2 did not fix anything in my opinion. I don't have any horror stories about having both versions on my machine, but if you start producing in one version it is best to complete your project and video in that same version. You should reinstall 7 since you bought the license to it. We actually have a media lab where both 7 and 8 are installed on each workstation and no issues encountered thus far. :)

LUCKY YOU! I have a 32-bit laptop with a single hard drive and 4gb RAM. I'm trying to keep as little software as possible on it and am trying to get my boss to pull the trigger on getting me the necessary equipment. Have a great holiday weekend and thanks for all the feedback!

We also experience this issue. We use Cornerstone Ondemand LMS and Camtasia 8.0.2. We have tried using quizes and no quizes. Never have we been able to get a status other than 'In Progress' for the Camtasia content in the LMS. It never goes to 'Completed'.

We're running 8.03, very short Camtasia pieces (2 - 6 mins.), no quizzing. Using Cornerstone Ondemand LMS. We also cannot get our Camtasia 8 training videos to go to Completed. (Our training pieces in Cam 7 don't have this issue.)

Anyone found a solution?

Oh no! I'm still running 8.0.2, in which the problem seems to have been solved. I'm not too thrilled to hear that it may be back again in 8.0.3. I hope the TechSmith guys have some good news for you!

Camtasia Studio 810 was released today. One of the new features is the capability to specify a minimum viewing percentage. As soon as the viewer reaches that point, the LMS should be notified that the course has been completed.

Hi Kevin,

Using Cornerstone on Demand LMS, Camtasia shows completed only for IE and Chrome, but not in Firefox after the user watches a 49 second video with no quiz. My guess is that it is not sending a LMS Commit.

Which version of Camtasia will send a completed status for ALL browsers upon watching the whole video?

Hi, sorry for not replying sooner. I'm not aware of any Firefox-specific issues. I think in our tutorial video we recommend setting the required viewing percentage to 95%.

If that doesn't do it, you'd probably best off working with our tech support department; I think there are sometimes some adjustments that need to be made for different LMS systems. Here's the link to create a support account: https://support.techsmith.com/registr...

I'm using ViDesktop - ViLMS - all videos register as completed.
I have installed Camtasia 8.1.2 (Build 1327) - Jul 19, 2013 - We do not use quizzes. We use IE8.

Kevin mentioned the capability to specify a minimum viewing percentage. I cannot find this option in order to test on our systems. Nor can I find this option in the help materials.
So, how does one set a required viewing percentage on SCORM compliant videos? Please advise.

Dear Cyn,

When you click Produce and Share, after you progress to the 'Video Options' page where you can check the SCORM option, click the Options.. button to the right of the SCORM checkbox. In the 'Manifest Options' window that pops-up, there's a section for 'Completion requirement' with a slider bar, where you can specify the Viewing percentage required to mark the course 'Completed' in your LMS.

I hope this is helpful!

Best regards,
Kimberli

Hi Kimberli,

Thank you, but unfortunately I don't have 'Completion Options' on the Manifest Options dialog box. could it be the production file format? and if so, do you know which should be used? I've been using WMV. .

I think I've got it, I'm producing as a MP4 and the option is now available. Now to see if it works in my LMS.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
