Camtasia is not recording my screen. =(
I chose the area that I wanted to record, hit the record button, but whenever I stopped it, the video preview came up, but it was completely black. I could hear the audio fine, but it just won't show the screen! I don't understand what the problem is. Please help, and thanks.

OS X 10.10.5 broke earlier versions of Camtasia for Mac.  Make sure you are running the latest version of Camtasia for Mac, which is version 2.10.3.

If you updated your OS to 10.10.5 you will need to update Camtasia to version 2.9 or later. The most recent version is 2.10.3.

Same here. Not working. I have the trial version of Camtasia 2 for Mac, I have El Capitan 10.11.3.

I have an old Cinema Display I use as my secondary screen and it can capture that screen no problem. As much as I like everything else about the software, I can't see making the purchase if I can't get it to work on my MAIN screen. Very puzzling ... and disappointing.

I am a new client.  Bought the software right now
on a mac 10.11.4 with camtasia Version: 2.10.5
it is not capturing the full screen or LCD,  only sound and black screen.

if this does not work on my version then I'll have to ask for a refund
My son has a school project due on Monday

My iMac is a 27" screen with a resolution beyond what Camtasia was able to record. I changed my screen resolution (Settings/Display) and changed it to 1920x1080 (I think, it may have been less than that). Of course everything now looks a little bigger but it wasn't unreasonable.

This did the trick. It was a little annoying because I love the "real estate" of my screen at its native resolution, but it worked.

I hope it works for you.

I'm using Camtasia 9.0.0 on a Surface Pro 4 and have had no problem (even two days ago) until today.  Now the audio records but not the video.  Has anyone figured this out?

Bruce, try reposting your request under Camtasia Studio for WIndows (due to how the old threads work here, your reply ended up under a five year old Camtasia Mac thread).

I have the same problem. The only solution I have is to not attempt to record your full screen, but record in 1920x1080p or 1280x720p. Those resolutions seem to work, but the rest give me black screens :( hope this helps

robert clark I no longer use Camtasia Studio 7 and do not have it installed on my Windows 10 System so not sure if it is compatible or not. You may want to contact TechSmith Support and ask them as it is a free service and they can check this issue out for you. Sorry I could not give a better answer to you and let us know if you contact support what they have to say by posting it back here for other users to see. You can also try the Free Trial Version of Camtasia 9 as it has had a lot of nice upgrades and works great on Windows 10 and is the newest version of Camtasia. Of course there are always going to be some bugs and Ideas that people want to help improve the software and the feedback is great to have for TechSmith would not know what users want or bugs they may find without the feedback. The Support Information is listed below and it is a free service.

*Sorry to hijack your question, but I'm posting it here because I have a very similar issue*

<<Camtasia 3 (Mac) on a iOS Siera>>

I am trying to capture my iPad connected via the lightning cable.
I choose the capture screen to point to my iPad. I see the neat little preview on the monitor. However, when I click 'Stop Recording', nothing happens.
When I click on 'Stop Recording' again, Camtasia hangs and then crashes.
(I am able to capture screens from my own desktop correctly)

This is quite an urgent situation, so any help is greatly appreciated!
