Can't access recording audio properties as Camtasia keeps crashing whenever I click Options.

Do you have some existing audio on the timeline and is it highlighted when you click on Audio? What Audio function are selecting? Can any other Audio functions be selected without a crash? Is this something you did in 7.0 or 7.1 with no problem?

The reason I bought the upgrade was because it kept crashing and I thought this would help it.

This is a blank project with nothing in it. I click on Record the Screen, then on the record pod I click Options on the Audio on button so I can change options and it crashes Camtasia.

Does audio work okay for other apps? Were you able to record screens before and one day it stopped? Trying to reverse troubleshoot to the point where it worked. When you say crashed, it dumps you out of the program with maybe a "report an error" dialog box? When you say version before that was v 7.0 or 7.1?

I'm just actually starting to use Camtasia and I am going through tutorials for it so there is no one day it just stopped as I think it never worked. I'm using Camtasia 8.0.2. I've even tried reinstalling and repairing the application but neither helped. Camtasia works fine on my laptop just not on my main computer which is 64bit may I add in case that is an issue.

I'm able to record the screens, just can't access the options to change how I want to record the audio.I can produce and share but not at the sound levels I'd like because I can't access the options.

My audio works fine with Skype, Sound Forge, Adobe Connect, GotoWebinar and other programs that use it.

When I click on Audio options it brings up a screen that says: Camtasia Recorder has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Hope I've answered all your questions.

Sorry to be so many questions but that is the only way to eliminate the variables. I'm running v8.0 on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop and an XP 32bit desktop so it's not an OS version problem that I know of.

Why click the audio options after recording? This is to set something prior to recording.

Please confirm this is the workflow:
1. Open CS 8.0 and select Record the screen
2. Alt-Tab or otherwise to the target program screen
3. Click the record button, watch the countdown and start recording
4. Click F10 to stop recording - save/edit = YES?

Is record to set as camrec or AVI clips? (in Tools - Options on Genral tab)

I am trying to click on the options before I record and that is when I get the crash/error. It won't let me set any options.

Okay, you've got something very machine specific going on there that Techsmith support could possibly help with.

The default audio settings are not bad, what were you wanting to change? It's probably set to record PC mic; you can elect to not encode audio later if you don't want it. If it is set to record camrec files, you can export (extract) AVI from that.

I neglected to ask what version of Camtasia you are using? Hopefully version 8.

I just downloaded the newest version you have. I was doing the trial.
I bought a version like 4 years ago and was going to buy the new one.
When I click (drop down)options next to "audio on" it crashes. I can find a way to record to AVI. I edit with Sony Vegas.

It's worth the upgrade; CS 8.0 is more powerful than all previous versions. The timeline and preview is made of steel now. Easy to do lots of stuff that was a chore or impossible before. (I do not work for Techsmith!) I use Vegas for live video and CS for all screen training or promos. The AVI interchange is not 100%, probably works in one direction due to overhead data written by Vegas.
