HI,

When is the next version of Camtasia Relay available?
The University of Portsmouth don't want to upgrade to 3.1 if 3.2 is just around the corner.

Also, It would be great to have stats on viewed videos as well as embed codes. Are these likely to come soon?

Many Thanks,

Anthony

Hi!

Where do you host your videos? I may have a workaround for the views, etc. I use Google Analytics on Screencast to some pretty good success!

I've forwarded your question about the release date of the next version to Walter Pelowski, who is involved in these decisions. The next release will be a big one!

Hey! I'm getting ready to talk to you on Twitter about system audio too. Small world!

Hi Jess,

We currently host our videos on our own storage server. Would google analytics work with our own server rather than using screencast?

It would be great if this was integrated into the administrators side of the Relay website.

Panopto Focus gave our budget holders and tech team a demo of their lecture capture software last week. Although their product looked poor in comparison to Relay, their application included video stats which we think as a University would be important for research and marketing.

Also, Being able to record system audio as well as an audio input would strengthen my case for the budget holders. A criteria that was discussed at the meeting was the need for academics to record audio outside of their PowerPoint presentation, like a youtube video for example.

If you can get back to me with any advice on solutions, updates, or of temporary fixes that would be great.

Thanks for asking Walter about the next release date. I look forward to hearing from him.

I've seen the videos of the new codec used in 3.1, looks great. Are there any changes to the UI, either on the application of the website?

Thanks for your help

Kind regards

Ant

Anthony, thanks for your feedback and questions.

We have not set a solid date for the next release so I would recommend installing 3.1. Ultimately, we believe we've made the update process for the server so quick and painless, that we hope that an update every couple of months or so is not a time-consuming process for you. With a server update, it should just take a couple of minutes of "Next" button clicks. We understand that recorder client updates could take more time, but as older versions can still upload to the 3.1 server, it should mitigate some concern about upgrading the server.

Thank you for the request that we record system audio. It is on our list of features we'd like to implement in an upcoming release.

Regarding the ability to track the viewing of the content, it is MUCH harder for Camtasia Relay to track that information than other solutions because Camtasia Relay is media hosting agnostic. We support a lot of different systems from which you can host your content and some of them (like Screencast, Kaltura, and Mediasite to name a few) give you options for tracking this information. Using your own storage server (I assume it is a Windows Server running IIS or a Linux server running Apache?) you may be able to make some changes to the publishing page that Relay uses in order to track this using Google Analytics. Jess can provide you more information in this regard.

For the changes to the system in 3.1, a list can be found at the following location: http://www.techsmith.com/camtasiarela... There are very few UI changes for this dot release, but major under-the-hood updates.

Thanks again for your questions and suggestions.

Hi Walter,

Thanks for your reply.

I will ask our team to upgrade to 3.1 this week. I'm glad you're looking to include system audio on a future release and really looking forward to trying out Fuse.
Hosting with Mediasite could be the solution we're looking for. They gave us a very good demo on Monday.

Thanks again

Best wishes

Anthony

Have you had success in the analytics yet? Check page 90 of the Technical Reference Guide (or near that page, depending on what version you have) and look at the HTML customizations. If you put your Google code right at the end of the page mentioned, you should be ok. Walter says that he thinks Google recommends right before the tag, and I've had the best luck with that myself, so that might be a good place to start.

Hi Jess,

I have just had a quick look through the Technical Reference Guide and will attempt this when I get a spare second. I didn't realise I could customise the player, as well as brand the website with our University logo, so i'll have a play around with that too :)

Cheers

I would like to make a video about customization, but I have to figure out the right way to do it. To people who get the concept it's easy. To others, I may muddy the waters more and lead to breakage. :) Thanks for this feedback, it does look like this is something we should maybe highlight.
