camtasia studio 8 project file wont open

i did a large recording of my friends and i playing minecraft and i wanted to put some highlights on youtube. my file was so big that camtasia studio kept crashing, so i decided i would save about every 5 minutes.
after 5 days of working on the file my camtasia studio crashed again just after i saved the project. now if i try to open the project it will just ignore that i asked it to open the project and go to the default screen, i click the 'open project' button and click my project but instead of opening it it does nothing, just sits there as if i did nothing. i dont even get something telling me the error.
i believe that my project is either to complicated to open or it is corrupt. the project had a large amount of work on it so i would love it if somebody were to help me with this.

thanks

If you are having an issue can you provide more information on how and what you were recording and what your system specs are etc. ? The more information provided the better your chances of getting help. If worse comes to worse and another user on here canot help or a TechSmith Employee then you could contact the support department to see what they can do for you pending on what your issue is. This is why I asked for more information etc. Like what you are trying to record for you project and the above questions.

Thanks for posting and have a great day/night. Look forward to hearing back from you.

I feel the same way.  I have been a loyal Camtasia user since V3.  It started getting quirky at V6 and these days it is not unusable.   So when V9 comes out and it is time to give Techsmith more money,  I think those dollars will go to Adobe Capture.   I need to get work done.

I just had a crash like this after hours of editing. How can the system not open the project file now? From these comments it looks like my work is lost for good ...? Are you kidding me?

My specs are listed here:

Model Name: iMac

  Model Identifier: iMac13,2

  Processor Name: Intel Core i5

  Processor Speed: 3.2 GHz

  Number of Processors: 1

  Total Number of Cores: 4

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

  L3 Cache: 6 MB

  Memory: 8 GB

  Boot ROM Version: IM131.010A.B09

  SMC Version (system): 2.11f16

The program crashed while editing a simple zoom animation and now the whole project won't open.

Camtasia is good for screen capture. But it is hopeless for video as this part was an "add on" to their screen capture. Check out AVS4YOU or dedicated video capture and editing programs.
Don't persist with that which will not work

The problem you experienced goes back at least 3 years. If they can't correct it in that time I wouldn't hold your breath for your "inconvenience" to be fixed.
While you cannot open the project you may have to edit the original again. Did you use Camtasia or Zoom to record?

First we wanted to thank you for your patience while we worked to address this issue.

We are pleased to announce that that we have just released our newest and most powerful version of Camtasia.  Camtasia 9 is fully 64-bit, which means that it can utilize more memory from your system.  This should help resolve the stability issues in version 8.x with large dimension video or complex projects could lead to out of memory conditions and crashes.  Camtasia 9 should be much more stable with these types of projects.

You can buy Camtasia (see: http://bit.ly/1L17R9t ) or download the trial (see: http://bit.ly/1tx3fNn ).  Camtasia 9.x can run side-by-side with 8.x, so that you can try it for yourself.

Please feel free to post your feedback and feature requests here in our Community forums and remember, all technical support-related inquiries should be directed to our dedicated Technical Support team at https://support.techsmith.com/

I've just upgraded to Camtasia 9.  It still won't open the project that I spent days working on.

Hi Andy. First off, I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you've been having. The harsh reality is that Camtasia 8.x can fail as the complexity of the timeline increases. While there can be several reasons for crashes and hangs, the most common thing we saw was that the application would hit the memory limits on 32-bit applications, and then would fail in unpredictable ways.

Camtasia 8.x does have an auto-save function which can help sometimes, provided the auto-saved file is in good condition.

Have you tried contacting our TechSupport staff? Depending on the state of your project, and any auto-saved copies, they may be able to help you recover.

Again, I do apologize for the problems.

My project has been lost as the file won't open after it crashed. Terrible program and by the look of the comments above nothing has been done to address these issues for years!

Hi there;

You will want to open a support ticket so an agent can request the project to see if they can recover it.

I have the exact same problem, but something I noticed is that my camproj file is 0 bytes. Is there any way to get back a earlier version of the file?
