Camtasia Studio Hotkeys

I have spent a few minutes with CS8 and especially interested in the keyboard on the timeline. First of all: why invent a new word HOTKEYS, when we already have SHORTCUTS? This only makes it more confusing. MicroSoft has used shortcuts for ages.

When I press F1 I get to HTML help, but there is not much HTML about that. I can NOT search in the text, why? Very user-unfriendly.

PDF is user-unfriendly, as Jakob Nielsen wrote more than 10 years ago. I can see, that the article has been updated

Hi Michael,
I'm sorry for the frustrating experience you are having! Will you help me get to the root of the issue(s) so I can make any necessary corrections/fixes?

First, did you end up finding the information you needed on how to navigate the timeline using the hotkeys? If not, I apologize for that. We do have that information in the help file and in the PDF document. But, I know not everyone can easily find it - we are working on making our help and online tutorials easier to locate and search.

If you did end up finding the information, was it the right information? Did it give you the hotkeys needed to navigate the timeline? If no, can you please tell me how the information was lacking and what could make it better?

As to your comment on hotkey versus shortcut, I tend to use both at times and in the help file I define it this way:

"A hotkey, also called a keyboard shortcut, shortcut key, or keystroke combination, is a key or set of keys that perform a defined function in a software application or computer operating system."

I do this so people searching on any of these terms will find the information they are looking for. In the general public, shortcut seems to be the most popular term while others who work in the a technical or computer industry tend to use hotkey. I think this allows us to cover all of our bases in regards to users and the search term they might use.

You mention that you could not perform a search in the help file. Were you using the Search box located in the Search tab, or were you trying a different way? I have not had previous bugs reported for the search not working but want to check into this if search is not performing correctly. One issue we do have currently is the search results are not always sorted correctly by relevance.

Finally, on to the PDF... I know some people do not care for PDF documents. However, there are a lot of people who just love them. While a lot of information is online or available in a video, there is something to be said about printing a book and having it on the desk beside you as you use a software program. People learn in different ways and we try to provide various learning avenues for our customers.

What I am really interested in knowing from you is; How could I have delivered this information to you in a timely and efficient way? Where should the information have been and in what format should it have been delivered so it was available to you "right on time"?

Any feedback you would care to share would be quite helpful in allowing me to make the user assistance for Camtasia Studio more helpful, available, and friendlier.

Thanks so much,

Kelly
