Windows 10 has a built in timer. Perhaps you could launch it and record it with Camtasia. Then add it as a layer in your video?

Click the Start button and type Alarms and the entry for the Alarms & Clock utility should appear.

Rick, I tried this app; it worked OK in stop watch mode [for recording purposes] but I could never get the timer mode to work as desired; I wanted to have a timer that would count down from 1 hr 0 min 0 sec; could never get those changes to take within the app

is there a trick to doing so?

thanks

UPDATE

finally figured out that I had to "save"

LOL, and I am presently waiting for the video I recorded to finalize and upload.

Hey ho, perhaps it will help someone else along the way.

The easiest way would be to turn on the on the Camtasia recorders timer while recording. However, that timer is burned into the recording. If you edit out any of the video the timer would be thrown off as a result.

If you had a video of a timer running , then you could overlay it on the video. That would be the easiest way to apply one.
You could also create a timer using a succession of numbered callouts. If you created one every second you could do it that way.
There is no on screen timer function built into Camtasia's editor.

Here is a tutorial I did a few months ago on how to create a timer for your video. Once created, you can put it into your library and use whenever you want. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqpC9bRrV4I
