I'm not sure what you are seeking. It sounds like you want some type of recorder that captures different windows or whatever on different layers? And you want the ability to control which layers are actually captured?

I'm not sure I've ever seen a way to accomplish that.

Are you referring to 'tracks' of input -- audio or video or graphics?

If you are referring to tracks, you can disable a track by selecting the eye icon to the left of the track.

I hope this is what you are looking for.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. But then I pondered the title. Hiding a layer from recording. And the thing is, the recording is all just a single layer.

It will be interesting to see if wa2b comes back with a better explanation of what s/he is trying to do.

Cheers... Rick :)

Thanks for the replies
I realize that it's probably something only a painting/drawing/image editing app that has it's own recording function could do.
I was asking because it's something that the Procreate sketching app is going to implement and someone mentioned on a forum that Camtasia could already do it, but it was obviously a misunderstanding.
The aim would be, when you are recording yourself drawing, sketching or doing calligraphy etc, that you'd be able to hide a reference image or a layer on which you've already done the work.
I'm a designer and I often have to send concept sketch videos to people I work with, and such a function would be super useful to make sure I'm not forgetting anything.
However I do understand that a recording app couldn't control which layers in a 3d party app appear in the recording.
Thanks
