Can I leave Camtasia 8 installed and also install and run Camtasia 9?

I have Camtasia 8 (all patched up) installed.

Can I download my upgrade to 9 and run it alongside 8 and uninstall 8 in the future? Will the two versions work when installed together on the same PC?

I just want to more easily slide projects over to the new version.

Cheers,

Sean

Yes you can.
You can even have both programs open and running at the same time.

one benefit of having both versions installed is that you can capture CS9 Recorder in action using CS8's Recorder, and vice-versa; very useful if making Camtasia tutorials or reporting a bug, etc

How do i change back .camproj files to be opened in Camtasia 8 by default? I'd rather not run the risk of them being corrupted in Camtasia 9.  I am on Windows 10 and can't find Camtasia 8 to set the default file association to in control panel.

I believe the only way is to open CS8, then navigate to and open the camproj file

but if you uninstall CS9, the association will return

I always zip my projects; importing a CS8 zip into CS8 eliminates the association issue for that project

Hi Jo,

I unsuccessfully tried to associate  .camproj files with Camtasia 8 on my computer through the Control panel. This is how you would access Camtasia 8.
However, after I changed the file association. Windows 10 still won't recognize Camtasia 8 and opens Cam 9 anyway.  I think tech support needs to look into this.I can't resolve it.Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

If a .camproj was created in Camtasia 8.
Camtasia 9 creates a new "Converted".camproj file.

The original Camtasia 8 file is saved in it's original state.
Although, I have seen it reported that the original .camproj became corrupted updating from Camtasia 7 to Camtasia 8 and reported in this forum. On more than one occasion.

I recommend  copying and pasting the original file on your desktop or some location away from the original and letting Camtasia 9 up-convert it. That way, you know the original is safe.
