This is necessary to obtain the desired format, eg avi or flv without double conversion.

No. The .trec format is collection of information " A Container of Files".

You cannot extract the contents of a .trec file. You can only produce the file in another format.

In the past, Camtasia used the ".camrec recording format". Those files could be extracted. An example of what's inside is shown below.

This example is only intended to show what the .camrec container has inside.
.trec recordings contain the same type of information.

I think I read the question differently. Would the purpose of publishing in a .trec be so that you could simplify your project? I would think that this would just group all of your edits and changes together so you can bring a project back in as a single track.

This would be particularly useful if you were ever slicing up a long video to edit it in smaller chunks...

And for another take, you DO have the option of recording directly to AVI if you change the recording settings to do so.

I'm speaking to your comment about "...obtain the desired format, eg avi or flv without double conversion."

You do have to sacrifice some of the functionality of the TREC capabilities by doing so. But if you are looking to just record and share without an extra step, AVI may be what you want.

Cheers... Rick :)
