Hi there, I am running a trial for Camtasia 2 on my MacBook Pro and am considering using Camtasia as my permanent screen recorder for gaming. My question is, can Camtasia record my gaming video and audio, as well as Skype audio, while I talk to my friends through Skype through my USB headphones mic? I attempted to do so last night, and received error messages saying that some other application is controlling the sound (or something like that).

Thank you!

XSpilt doesn't work with Macs and Game Captures are expensive and require a second monitor, which is why I am considering Camtasia.

The short answer: Good luck. (It's not impossible; just be aware of the limits of Camtasia)

Camtasia can record one audio input device, and all of the system audio output. For example, one microphone (even USB), and everything output to the speakers from all programs.

The problem? Well, if you are having Skype output voice, your game output sound, and you are letting skype grab your voice, then camtasia can also grab your voice, and program output -- game, skype -- and everything is fine.

So that description should work, just fine.

The issue comes with any sort of audio loopback, any sort of sending one audio stream to multiple locations. Camtasia does not work properly with any soundflower derivative -- it only works so-so with Audio Spider.

For example, if you want your game audio to go any place other than your audio output and the recording -- going to a stream, for example, or going out to your skype -- then it won't work.

Equally, if you do NOT want to record skype, then you won't be happy -- if it is audio being output by any program, then it will be recorded.

Now, Full-screen games? ... Can you set the computer's display resolution to match what the game will be using? Last time I tried (And it was a while ago), the game changed the resolution, and camtasia had no way to change the size of what it was recording.
