Can you KEEP the gap after cutting?

Using Camtasia 9. I'm editing a voiceover track which I've split from the video and want to remove the "ums" and "uhs" from the speaker, but need the gap not to close when I do this so the rest of the voice still matches the video. Is there a way to use the cut but to KEEP the gap in place? So far I've just been splitting the track before and after the "um" and deleting it, but if I could use a modified Cut that would be easier. Thanks!

use "delete" key instead of cutting

have you instead tried silencing the audio selections you're deleting?
