I cannot find a way to auto save to PNG. I would really love to be able to select the format the applications auto saves as.

Hi, I think I understand.

If you save as a PNG one time, subsequent times default to PNG. But you are making the point that the autosave should have an option somewhere that you can set to PNG?

In order to better understand, can you elaborate a bit about why you don't want the images as snag files? I think we intentionally designed it the current way so that all images would be editable and not "flattened".

Thanks for your feedback!

When I take screen shots like the ability to quickly have them somewhere in file system to attach them to Gmail emails or to have them saved as PNGs in a directory. Does there exist a way to not have it save as a snag file?

Set the Snagit output to a file and the format to png.

Snagit for Mac has a preference for drag and paste format that you can set to .png if you need that.

So i guess it is not possible to have it work the same way as the windows version where it automatically saves a PNG file to the file system? Dragging and dropping is not beneficial for someone like me who uses web mail most of the time.

David mentions Snagit for Mac has a preference for drag and paste format. Where is this setting? How does one set it as default?

I would also really like the feature of autosaving as png. Do you have any plans for adding this feature?

Yeah, I'd love to see an auto-save feature to PNG or something other than TIFF. When I screenshot something, it automatically will paste it as a TIFF format if I throw it in an email, for example. I'd love to be able to change that format since Windows users have issues with opening TIFFs more often than PNG's or another format of my choosing, like JPG, GIF, etc.

drag to jpeg on Mac isn't that useful when you have 600+ images to drag, one by one...
add the ability to auto save as other formats other than 'snagproj'
some people says its possible with applescripts but I don't care about learning scripts.

I'm sorry - this drag feature is ridiculous! It just adds more work to my day. I simply want to capture an image and automatically know it will be saved as the format I want - like .png. Love the Windows version of SnagIt - hating the Mac version!

Snagit for Mac is an overelaborate piece of junk, that fails to see why people even use screen capture software. Why would you not add a simple, convenient option to autosave files as PNG, so we can go through our projects and capture dozens of screenshots in a breeze? You got it right in the Windows-version, why did you screw up so badly in the Mac-version?

I'm so frustrated that you guys can't even get something simple and basic as this right. People have been pointing this flaw out for over a year... just get it right, guys!

What's worse is that Mac has Alt-Shift-3 which can do this but they can't match it?  SnagIt offers other advantages but without autosave and Finish button it's practically useless!  I'm stunned that they've ignored this issue for this long!  Some "artiste" over there much have a problem with autosave!

Everyones right here. I just downloaded the mac trial and think its great but when i got to use the images within a program i call up the Media Browser to view the snaps but they are unavailable because they are not in a format mac recognises.
Please add the feature to autosave to png gif etc, it would really complete your program for mac users and speed up workflow. thanks

Let me just say this:
If you haven't paid for SnagIt on the Mac, or are fed up with there being no resolution to this, then I have a suggestion - get Monosnap.
It's free, it's awesome, and I've never looked back ever since installing it about 3 months ago. Everyone I know who has tried it, loves it. Just google it and grab it - I doubt you'll be sorry.

This showed up in a Google search, so in case somebody else needs it: I was frustrated with this too until I discovered File/Batch Export. Perfect for what I needed.
