I have a great 10 minutes of video, but I screwed up the end. Can I cut the last few minutes of my video in Snagit? Or will I need to get Camtasia to do this?

Right now I have the free 30-day trial of Snagit & I'm trying to decide what I'll need long term.

Sorry, there's no video editing in Snagit. This includes the trimming capability you're looking for in this case.

I can relate to your problem too. I always screw up the end of my videos. It's going so well, and then when I'm signing off I'll say something goofy. I just freeze up. :)

Let me know if you need a hand with Camtasia. Have you seen our help tutorials as well? http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-cam...

Good luck and thanks for posting!

Could I import the video I've made into Camtasia & trim it there?

Yep, that would work like a charm.

Just to pick at an old scare:

There's a huge difference between a tool with:

No editing
the ability to trim (fumbling to the stop record option etc.)
and the ability to edit video

With three products I'm surprised Techsmith hasn't incorporated this distinction.

I resent the fact that Snagit does not allow me the simple option of cutting a few seconds off the end of a video capture. Camtasia is $99. I feel misled. Fortunately I have not yet paid for Snagit, and may not. I will try editing the capture in iMovie, but I will not buy Camtasia under these misleading circumstances.

Add simple editing to videos captured by Snaggit.

Add simple editing tools for trimming a clip at the beginning and the end and even splitting a video... Many times when capturing a video in Snaggit excess video is recorded at the beginning and the end. Currently this results in having to take the video into another program to trim it - but it would be convenient to do it all in Snaggit!!

Trimming Video.

I recently just purchased Snagit 11, and while I like the program overall, I find it exceedingly frustrating that I can't trim the beginning and ends of video. Unfortunately I just assumed that such basic functionality would be included. I have other video editing software and I know Camtasia has that capability, but it really seems as though being able to adjust the in and out points of the video we capture and save it without having to go into another application would be a natural feature to have.

No-frills Trim Needed for Snagit.

[I'm using Mac OS 10.8.x on a MacBook Pro] I've just spend about 2 hours trying to trim an mp4 I captured using SnagIt. I basically needed to trim the video from ~14m to ~5m in order to focus on some specific things. I tried using Camtasia to do this, but the resulting mp4 (even making sure the canvas was adjusted correctly) was only marginally smaller than the original capture (even though I'd reduced it from 14m to 5m... more than half!). Furthermore, I found the process very tedious for the extremely simple task I wanted to perform. I didn't want effects, transitions, fades, audio-edits, etc. I just wanted to trim a SnagIt mp4, period.

PLEASE PLEASE add the ability to do simple no-frills trims into SnagIt. I could have been done with this in minutes. Instead, I've ended up with the following workflow to get what I want: (1) Capture video in SnagIt. (2) Trim video in QuickTime, saving the results as a .mov file. (3) Use a video converter to change the .mov to a .mp4.

This really should have been like this: (1) Capture video in SnagIt. (2) Trim video in SnagIt. (3) Save video using SnagIt to mp4.

Again, please consider adding no-frills trimming for video captures to SnagIt. Sooner than later would be great. I've seen "Camtasia is our editing tool" responses for similar questions, and that IS NOT satisfactory. I have Camtasia and I love for when I need to do full-blown video editing stuff that requires all it has to offer. I shouldn't need to use it for a simple no-frills trim of a SnagIt video capture.

There are a number of requests like this.

I'd prefer to make the feature request

Add option to trim starts and ends of videos

OR

have SnagIt intuit when I'm done instead of making me remember a key command, possibly through reading my mind (USB dongle?)

We are an educational software company the uses video recording to help us find bugs in software we might otherwise not remember how to reproduce. It would not be unusual to record 2 or more hours of video and needless to say, that's a huge file to insert into our bug database just for a few seconds of video. Being able to trim the beginning and end of the video is very important or we would have to spend more money on other software just to be able to edit the video.

Editing on Snagit videos.

I'm using Snagit and sometimes do 20-30 minute lectures. If I make a mistake well into the lecture, is there any way to edit without having to redo the entire lecture?

Hey Chuck,

You'll need Snagit 12 to be able to edit or trim the video. The good news is, depending on how recent your purchase of version 11 was, you may be eligible to upgrade to 12 for free. Hope that helps!

Is it possible to trim a Snagit video using the trial version, or do I need to buy the full verison?
And, is there a way to adjust the audio and background noise in Snagit, or will that require Camtasia?
Thanks.

Using snagit11 and I am a long time user and passionate advocate for snagit. Took a video and wanted to edit the end off. Found written comments saying I could do it. But after 30 minutes trying realised that i could not with version 11. VERY frustrating

I was just looking for an editing program (non TechSmith) to download when I spotted that version 12 did it. So downloaded that.

Can I suggest you add a topic or something that appears when you search for EDIT VIDEO that says only in version 12 and beyond. You nearly lost a sale and an advocate!

I'm having a slightly different problem. I have SnagIt 12, and have trimmed the beginning of my video as well as ten seconds in the middle. I have a huge problem trimming off the end of my video (every time!) is there some kind of limit to the number of cuts I can make?
