Question for @CamtasiaTips - Is there a way to "export selection" in Camtasia Mac, similar to Camtasia Studio?

Hi Mel - I have to admit I don't know for sure...but I'll ask around and see if we can get you an answer straight away.

Not right now. So, perhaps this question should turn into a feature idea instead!

Hi,

I think the best workaround right now is to trim the ends down, produce it, and then undo. I'll change this to an idea.

This is similar to the question at http://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmi...

Here's the answer I gave for that:

1) backup your project (optional)
2) select everything you don't want to export
3) delete it
4) export
5) undo the delete
6) repeat steps 2-5 for the other parts.

Here's a video showing the process in detail: http://bit.ly/oGgYL2 (4:17)

Being able to export a selection is also very important to me and the idea of deleting things that I don't want is not practical for my purposes.

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that we recently released Camtasia for Mac 2.9, which includes the ability to export a selection of your timeline. Just follow these steps:
  1. Make a range selection (of the portion you want to export)
  2. Choose an export option from the Share menu
  3. Click Continue
  4. Walk through the export dialogs as normal
Here's a silent video demonstrating the process: http://www.screencast.com/t/1YqCUYFf8avP

Hope this helps!

I exported a snippet successfully a couple weeks ago. I went to do this today and simply cannot get this to work. Instead of getting the message verifying that I want to export a selection, Camtasia for Mac begins to export the entire 13GB file. I've spent hours on this today and even went to VLC and Quicktime to see if there was an easier way. Am I doing something wrong?

Here's what I'm doing: http://www.screencast.com/t/M65sJQffMu

Thanks,
Andy

Hi, Andy.

Looks like you're doing it right. If you haven't, try quitting Camtasia and doing it again. If the problem still persists, you might need to open a ticket with Tech Support: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

As a workaround, you can also:
1) make a selection & copy it (cmd+c)
2) open a new project (cmd+n)
3) paste in the selection (cmd+v)
4) export just that (cmd+e)

Not elegant, but still pretty quick--I just hold down the cmd key while I press in turn c, n, v, then e.

Hope that helps,

Conan.

Conan, thanks for the idea here. When I follow this workflow I do get just the selected snippet pasted into the new project, but the export still begins processing the entire 13GB source file and is taking hours. I'll open a ticket.

Here's what I'm doing: http://www.screencast.com/t/80r7HFE6G

Thanks,
Andy

I waited out the pause in UI response. Eventually the selection did export fine (about 10 to 20 mins depending on the length), but there is no visual UI progress that would let me know anything is happening.

Thanks again for the help.

Hello,

I've just paid for an upgrade to my Mac software to version 3.0. I was expecting export selection to just work without having to do workarounds. To be honest, I'm gobsmacked that this isn't provided as standard.

Come on Camtasia. This is basic functionality. I don't expect to have to pay more money for another upgrade once it's addressed.

Yours hopefully!

Hi LadyMoon!

To export just a selection, use the red/green tabs on the Playhead to select an area, then go to Share - Local File and you should be prompted whether you want to produce the selection or produce the full video.

For context, the original suggestion at the top that we should have this was from 5 years ago, and now we DO have it.

Hi, I'm trying to follow these instructions with Camtasia 2018, but when I click "Share". I can only export audio or an individual frame. How do I export the entire clip I have placed the green and red markers around? Thanks!

Does Mac offer a right click context menu? If so, maybe the option is found there by right-clicking the selection?

Unfortunately, I could not find the option there either. If I Add Timeline Selection to Library there still was not option to export an MP4.

To export a range what you have to do is select a range on the timeline, and then select any of the options under Share in the main menu.  It will pop up a dialog telling you that it will only export the current selection.  Hit continue, and it will then export your selected range.

How do I select a range? I assumed it was using the green and red playhead tabs. But when I do this I still only get the options I shared above.

The only dialog box that appears is asking where I want to save the .png of my file.

Aha! Thank you! The key was selecting Local file rather than the export options. It would be helpful if this referenced "Selection" somewhere. Otherwise, I assume it refers to sharing my entire project. Thanks again!
