One step capture.
There are several topics asking about the "extra click" now required to capture a screen. It is not obvious how to turn it off. Here is what I did:
1) edit preferences - hotkeys tab - change global capture to ctrl print screen
2) manage profiles - choose the Image capture profile - click the Hotkey button and change it to print screen

Please change the auto capture button in version 3 so that it's a preference instead of just making it pop into a confirm dialog..
Please make this as a preference where when you click the BIG RED BUTTON, it either will prompt you to clean up grab or just grab and take you to the editor. You can then make the extending capture menu that lives on on the pop-out menu handle it the opposite way of the preference. Not feeling happy with version 3

Toggle Capture Confirmation Window.
I don't know what it's called, but now there is a window that pops up after every capture in version 12.
I've looked for options to toggle it. You are forcing me to use more mouse clicks to create my captures. what I love about snagit is how fast it is to use. The fact that I can be working and documenting at the same time. Now I have to move my mouse to click the camera button for every capture I do. Sounds like a minor point, but it really does impact my workflow with your tool.
I've been huge snagit fan for years. I recommend it to pretty much anyone who spends a decent amount of time in software. By and large I am not a fan of version 12. I think version 11 provided better functionality. I'm not sure what happened, I hope you all recognize the state of V12 and fix some of the issues.

Snagit 12 annoyance and issue.
New option pop-up and WSUS Console issue:
The new pop-up that allows you to choose a capture or video capture after selecting what to capture is highly annoying and less productive. It adds another unnecessary click. I can understand the thought of this addition but I just don't see a need to ask which every time. If I wanted a video in 11 I just switched it to video capture first.
Also in the WSUS administration console the capture scroll no longer works at all. In Snagit 11 it worked poorly. You had to hover the mouse in just the right spot to get the scroll capture button to appear and then use my touch screen to hit the button. Moving the mouse would make the button disappear hence the need for a touch screen.
In Snagit 12 I can no longer use this work around as the scroll capture button simply doesn't appear.

Why did techsmith make screen capture a 3 step process?.
Screen capture is now a 3 step process:
1. Press print screen
2. Select capture area
3. Select type of capture video/screen
It used to be a 2 step process. Just print screen then capture area.
Why make Snagit a more inefficient process.
ps: Techsmith don't like criticism. I have posted this 3 times and they keep deleting it from forum.

SnagIt 12 - Give Us Back Our "Classic Capture Window" From v11.
You have streamlined SnagIt 12 to be 60% less functional than it's predecessor v11. You guys love to design/develop, but clearly no one actually uses the application on a daily basis. Removing the Classic Capture Window capability forces us to create and/or edit multiple profiles. What a total waste of effort. The "Click To Capture" no longer retains the "desired" capture mode. While version 12 is nice, and some of the editing methods are cleaner, the basic operation of the program has been crippled. Read Title and Repeat....

There are some people who would benefit from the new method (being able to choose image/video, being able to move the selection area round). So, calm down, set a profile, and move on in life. That's my 2-cents.

Actually, for me, considering myself a very seasoned software user, I found myself stumbling on even getting a hotkey assigned or changed generically to the one click gizmo. ;)
I ended up being a bit bummed, because I found myself rather fond of the last incarnation of the one click. But it apparently had to morph into a gargantuan eyesore that really didn't do its job for me any more so I ended up turning it off and just using the hotkey.
But for me, the capture method is secondary and I can just live with it (until it changes again, which I'm sure it will at some point).
The real issue as I see it (and apparently many others too) is the eye straining interface. I'm not kidding in the least when I report that it honestly is causing me headaches if I have to look at it much. So for that, I honestly feel that everyone's complaints are perfectly valid.
Cheers... Rick :)

Before: double click systray, choose profile, hit print screen for working.
now:
try to find x keyboard combinations and memorize them and hope they never change.
plus having additional three clicks to even get to profile selection.
It is surely not a problem if you just use one or two profiles.

For those on Windows who would like to reassign the PrtScn key to always launch an image capture, this graphic from our QA specialist Pam shows how to detach PrtScn from the big, red button and attach it to whatever capture profile you prefer. If you are trying to reassign PrtScn and are getting an error that says "The Snagit capture hotkey is in use by another program. Select a different keyboard combination for the hotkey," this is your solution.

I just upgraded from 11 to 12 and the inability to choose a profile and have it stay when I click the Print Screen button on my keyboard is really annoying. When I'm taking screenshots, I need to be able to catch the hover states of different things, which is easy when the Print Screen button works. Now I either have to map a bunch of hot keys or set a timer for every profile.
She wants to set her custom profiles as a default. Just like SnagIt 11 and versions going way back.
The same thing many users have requested in this forum ever since SnagIt 12 was released.
Maybe you should just say. TechSmith refuses to return that functionality to the program.
Changing the behavior of that " One Trick Pony" / "Giant Red Button" is out of the question. We will not be changing this for anyone.
How can you say? I think I understand what you're looking to do.
Really? I think your response comes across as being condescending and disingenuous.

Also I do spend research first to find out if a fitting topic is there, adapt to it and so on.
My conclusion: Use other channels than this forum.

Snagit 3.x is a Step Backwards Beware of the Update.
TechSmith failed on many levels with this update. (My Opinion) I am glad to see others who have posted similar concerns and comments in different post. To be clear- I have been a SnagIt user for a long time. I don't mind paying for updates when they are fairly priced, Add value and are clearly communicated..
Snagit failed at each one of these tasks. It was not clearly communicated I was updating to a new paid update, I only realized it after being asked if I wanted to continue my trial. Updates are usually reserved for updates within a version, when there is a paid update with major features I am usually notified of the enhancements and cost. I am asked to make a decision, with SnagIt 3.x I was told I was only given the standard Apple update screen. I am told there was red writing at the bottom of the update notice but I did not see it nor would I have expected a paid update to be presented this way.
During the trial period, I have since reverted back to 2.X I noticed an extra step of being asked to choose if I wanted a video capture or a screen capture after my capture was completed. I don't get the logic of being asked after the fact, nor do I like the extra step. Tech support tells me there are simple work arounds but I don't want a work around no matter how simple they may think it is. If you read a post from Daniel , he claims this added step others have complained about is for new users. Except for the logic of why you would present this option after the fact, I get adding novice steps, they should however be a preference setting to keep it simple and not add the extra steps for those of us who have been using the program for many years. I am OK with change, well some change but it needs to be thought out properly, there are challenges with Snagit , especially in the text area, there are great ideas and feature request that some people have posted. Why would SnagIt ever release a version like this and expect people to pay for it. I will be holding off on paying for an update until I have an option of turning off the Novice mode or it is removed.

Make it default on all profile - awesome. I train beginners all the time, they don't know what they want.
However, we specify in our profiles what we want achieved. Given that fixed / full screen options do not work either, this moves snagit from a great productivity too to an overpriced screenshot grab utility.
Making it mandantory? Hell no.

I selected a profile, hit PrintScreen, that's it.
The capture lands into the editor and I simply clickedn on the "Finish Profile" button.
By default the "Finish Profile" button is nót available anymore...
I might re-assign the global hotkey to ctrl-printscreen or so, but then again, only 1 profile may get the 'printscreen'. Assigning printscreen to other profiles is not possible (The Capture Hotkey is already assigned to another profile)
By the way the "Finish profile" button is only available after assigning a hotkey to a profile.

Figure someone must have been thinking hard on how to make an easy task complicated + costs of programming...
@SteveH thanks for your tip anyhow.

How do I speed up Snagit 12.0 capture - slow compared to version 11.
In version 11 of Snagit when I hit the PrtScr button in windows 7 it presented a crosshair to select a screen area to capture. It then instantly was present in the editor.
In version 12 of Snagit when I hit the PrtScr button it presents the crosshair to select an area which I do, it then takes 5-10 sectonds and then presents an option to to click the camera icon or video to take a snapshot. It then appears in the editor.
How to I get it to show up instantly in the editor like version 11 ? I take a lot of captures during online seminars, this sucks and I loose the ability to get some of the presented slides ?
Help
Thanks

Everytime I choose an area or full window I have to select if I want an Image or a Video.
It would be nice to setup either at the preferences at it use to be in previous versions.

First, edit the SnagIt settings and remove the Print Screen key assignment from the Global capture. Then you are free to assign it to what you want.
Either that, or simply configure your own desired key assignments to be used with specific profiles. Then when you execute those assignments you only get what the profile contains.
Cheers... Rick :)

I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly - beyond the tutorials Chris shared, are you asking which key, specifically, you should set it to? It's mostly a personal preference. I use F1, but I know a lot of people set it to prnt scrn. You can make it whatever you like! Does that help?

If you are wanting to change the type of capture you "do" when the red button is clicked on, you are not able to change that behavior. In order for your company to all use the same captures, you would need to create each capture profile, export those, share them with others, and have them import those profiles.
If you have a situation where you are deploying Snagit on a corporate level as an admin, you may have more choices about creating profiles and having others in the company have those when Snagit is installed.

One of our support team members, Parker Hotchkiss, recommends this approach...
The easiest way would be to create that profile on one machine first, then use our Deployment Tool to pull in the settings from that one machine (which includes profiles) and deploy it to others: http://screencast.com/t/NKE9LvbI
Basic steps:
- In Snagit, go to Preferences -> Hotkeys, and unassign Print Screen from the “Global Capture”
- In the Manage Profiles window, select the Image profile and assign the Print Screen hotkey
- Use the Deployment Tool to pull in all settings from that machine (you can adjust other things, too)
This will create a custom deployment package (.msi) that should give you what you want!
