Cannot edit text callouts

Not sure why callouts seem SO MUCH harder to use than in version 8. I just installed version 2018 today with the hope that it would crash less often. I certainly like some of the UX changes but I'm really annoyed at the callouts. I had to google just to figure out how to type text into the boxes. once i figured that out, I am now mystified as to how to get the text box the size that I want it. I grab the effing handles and I cannot make the box any bigger. I can make it smaller and taller but not wider so no matter what I do, the text wraps. I'm trying to do something simple here- i'm trying to put a name and title under the face of my subject in my interview. This was soooooo intuitive in the previous version. What am I missing?

nevermind, i figured it out. I'm in crop mode. <face-palm>

However, i wish there was a text box in the properties page for editing the text like there was in 8...i miss that.

In an older version of Camtasia I could select within the text in a callout parts of it (for example one word). Now this is not possible anymore. And this has big disadvantage as I could also change the properties of this selected part, f.e. smaller font size, other color to emphasize, underline or bold.
It's a very pity this simple things seem to be impossible now.

If you use Legacy callouts. These things are as you remember.

The newer callouts auto resize text when the text box is resized to small to contain the text.
You can select individual words. There seems to be a bug with "Bold" text.

in Camtasias 2018, when editing callout text in the canvas, you can select and modify whatever part of the text you want

you make those selections by clicking/double clicking on the callout text, in the canvas, to give it the focus; then you can click the cursor on the desired selection point [look for blinking cursor]; hold shift and use right arrow key to make selection, or, drag with mouse down [left mouse button]
